COMMENDATIONS: Commends Lt. Col. Mark J. Sorapuru upon accepting command of
the 7th Space Warning Squadron at Beale Air Force Base on June 15, 2012, and
Ramona "Mona" T. Sorapuru upon becoming the squadron's first lady
A RESOLUTION1
To commend Lieutenant Colonel Mark J. Sorapuru upon accepting command of the 7th2
Space Warning Squadron at Beale Air Force Base on June 15, 2012, and Ramona3
"Mona" T. Sorapuru upon becoming the squadron's first lady.4
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Mark J. Sorapuru, the son of Murray J. Sorapuru5
and Priscilla Duplessis, was born in Marrero, Louisiana, and is a graduate of West Jefferson6
High School, the University of New Orleans, and the United States Naval War College in7
Newport, Rhode Island; and8
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Sorapuru is the husband of Ramona "Mona" Traigle9
Sorapuru, who is the daughter of Rebecca Jane Burgin and Alvin Traigle, a native of New10
Orleans, and a graduate of Riverdale High School and the University of New Orleans; she11
has served as the Catholic religious education coordinator at Peterson Air Force Base in12
Colorado Springs, Colorado; and 13
WHEREAS, together with their children, Abigail Ann and Mark Joseph "M.J."14
Sorapuru, Lieutenant Colonel and Mrs. Sorapuru are beginning a new chapter in their15
military lives with the 7th Space Warning Squadron at Beale Air Force Base in California;16
and17
WHEREAS, the men and women of the 7th Space Warning Squadron continuously18
scan the horizon for missiles, satellites, and other manmade objects in space; and19 HLS 12RS-5522 ORIGINAL

WHEREAS, the squadron's primary mission is to detect, track, and provide impact1
prediction of Sea-Launched and Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles launched towards North2
America to the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), and its secondary3
mission is space surveillance; and4
WHEREAS, on Friday, June 15, 2012, Colonel Jennifer C. Moore, Commander 21st5
Operations Group, is hosting a Change of Command Ceremony during which Lieutenant6
Colonel Scott M. Schroff is relinquishing command of the 7th Space Warning Squadron to7
Lieutenant Colonel Sorapuru; and8
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel and Mrs. Sorapuru and their family merit a special9
measure of commendation for the pride and honor that they bring to the state of Louisiana10
and the United States of America.11
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the12
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Lieutenant Colonel Mark J. Sorapuru upon13
accepting command of the 7th Space Warning Squadron at Beale Air Force Base on June14
15, 2012, and Ramona "Mona" T. Sorapuru upon becoming the squadron's first lady, does15
hereby record for posterity their vital contributions to their nation and their tireless16
dedication to excellence, and does hereby extend to them every good wish for continued17
success and happiness in their future endeavors.18
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted19
to Lieutenant Colonel Mark J. Sorapuru and Ramona "Mona" T. Sorapuru.20
