HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 173

TRANSPORTATION: Urges and requests DOTD to study widening a highway
A RESOLUTION1
Urges and requests the Department of Transportation and Development to study adding2
lanes along LA 64 from LA 16 to Greenwell Springs Road.3
WHEREAS, the Department of Transportation and Development has completed4
construction of a four-lane bridge to replace the two-lane LA 64 Amite River Bridge at5
Magnolia; and6
WHEREAS, the bridge has two twelve-foot lanes in each direction and ten-foot7
outside shoulders; and8
WHEREAS, nearly twenty-six thousand drivers cross the bridge each day; and9
WHEREAS, the community is grateful for the new bridge, it is unfortunate that a10
bottlenecking effect has taken place as the roads approaching the bridge are only two lanes;11
and12
WHEREAS, adding lanes along LA 64 from LA 16 to Greenwell Springs Road13
would alleviate much of this bottlenecking effect.14
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the15
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby urge and request that the Department of Transportation16
and Development study the feasibility of adding lanes along LA 64 from LA 16 to Greenwell17
Springs Road.18
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this study be conducted by the department prior19
to December 31, 2012, and a report of its findings be presented to the legislature thirty days20
prior to the convening of the 2013 Regular Session of the Legislature of Louisiana.21 HLS 12RS-5565 ORIGINAL

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted1
to the secretary of the Department of Transportation and Development.2
