ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2012 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 25 BY REPRESENTATIVE WHITNEY A RESOLUTION To commend R.J. and Jay Paul Molinere of Houma for their promotion of alligator hunting in south Louisiana on the popular History Channel television series, "Swamp People", and to welcome them to the Louisiana House of Representatives. WHEREAS, R.J. and Jay Paul Molinere have gained celebrity status in south Louisiana and throughout the United States as two of the most charismatic stars of the History Channel's documentary television series, "Swamp People"; and WHEREAS, after premiering in August 2010, the "Swamp People" series catapulted into the number one spot in the History Channel's program line-up; and WHEREAS, "Swamp People" is a unique story of resilient and skillful alligator hunters who carry on many of the traditions handed down by generations of their ancestors; and WHEREAS, the series follows R.J. and Jay Paul Molinere and several of their fellow alligator hunters through America's largest swamp during the thirty-day alligator hunting season; and WHEREAS, with the help of R.J. and Jay Paul Molinere, this popular television series has become the talk of not only south Louisiana but the nation as a whole and has focused the attention of viewers on the Cajun lifestyle known for its distinctive cuisine, music, and culture; and WHEREAS, R.J. Molinere is member of the United Houma Nation who has been making a living off the land, the same way his ancestors have done for thousands of years, since he was old enough to pole a boat through the marsh; and WHEREAS, R.J. Molinere's strong ties to the land and water have led him to teach his son, Jay Paul, to appreciate the bountiful natural resources that south Louisiana provides, a lesson that will certainly be passed on to Jay Paul's child and future generations; and ENROLLEDHR NO. 25 Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, in addition to being skilled outdoorsmen and showmen, R.J. and Jay Paul Molinere are both successful athletes who have won numerous championships in various competitions where they have exhibited their extraordinary determination and strength; and WHEREAS, during this momentous period in its history, Louisiana needs sportsmen like R.J. and Jay Paul Molinere to show Americans from Hollywood to Bar Harbor, from South Beach to Seattle, the great cultural traditions that are preserved in and emanate from this great state. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend R.J. and Jay Paul Molinere for their promotion of alligator hunting and the Cajun way of life on the History Channel's documentary television series "Swamp People", does hereby recognize and record for posterity their singular contributions to the unique culture of Louisiana, does hereby welcome them to the Louisiana House of Representatives, and does hereby extend to them enduring appreciation for the tremendous pride and honor that they bring to their family, friends, community, and state.
