ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2012 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 27 BY REPRESENTATIVE COX A RESOLUTION To commend the Pelican High School girls' basketball team upon winning the 2012 Class C state championship. WHEREAS, the Pelican High School girls' basketball team completed a sensational season, finishing with a record of 32-3 and earning the title of 2012 Class C state champions after defeating Saline High School by a score of 42-38 to win the state championship game on Friday, March 9, at the Thomas Assembly Center in Ruston; and WHEREAS, the members of the team performed at the highest level of excellence throughout the 2011-2012 season and playoffs, and each of these great Lady Jaguars deserves recognition for her vital contribution to the winning effort; and WHEREAS, the Lady Jaguars were led by Michee Alexander and Latarsha Hall, who earned the title of Most Outstanding Player for the championship game; and WHEREAS, the Lady Jaguars' amazing accomplishments could not have been achieved without the guidance and skills of head coach, Cleve Craig, as well as all of the other individuals who have contributed to the success of the school's basketball program; and WHEREAS, the team's outstanding 2011-2012 season upholds the glorious tradition of the Lady Jaguars, and all Pelican High School alumni and fans recognize the immense pride and distinguished honor that the team brings to its school, community, and state; and WHEREAS, this historic Lady Jaguar victory, in conjunction with the Jaguars' 2012 state title, marks the first time in thirty years that a school has claimed girls' and boys' titles on the same day at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association basketball championship. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Pelican High School girls' basketball team upon winning the 2012 Class C state championship and does hereby extend best wishes ENROLLEDHR NO. 27 Page 2 of 2 to the players, coaches, and everyone involved with this fine basketball program as they celebrate their exceptional season and prepare for continued success in the future.
