COMMENDATIONS: Commends the Pelican High School boys' basketball team upon
winning the Class C state championship
A RESOLUTION1
To commend the Pelican High School boys' basketball team upon winning the 2012 Class2
C state championship.3
WHEREAS, the Pelican High School boys' basketball team completed a sensational4
season, finishing with a record of 30-7 and earning the title of 2012 Class C state champions5
after defeating Dubach High School by a score of 67-35 to win the state championship game6
on Friday, March 9, at the Thomas Assembly Center in Ruston; and7
WHEREAS, the members of the team performed at the highest level of excellence8
throughout the 2011-2012 season and playoffs, and each of these great Jaguars deserves9
recognition for his vital contribution to the winning effort; and10
WHEREAS, the Jaguars were led by Zikiteran Woodley, whose thirty-one points and11
eleven rebounds earned him the title of Most Outstanding Player for the championship game;12
and13
WHEREAS, the Jaguars' amazing accomplishments could not have been achieved14
without the guidance and skills of head coach, Richard Simmons, as well as all of the other15
individuals who have contributed to the success of the school's basketball program; and16
WHEREAS, the team's outstanding 2011-2012 season upholds the glorious tradition17
of the Jaguars, and all Pelican High School alumni and fans recognize the immense pride and18
distinguished honor that the team brings to its school, community, and state; and19 HLS 12RS-2276 ORIGINAL

WHEREAS, this historic Jaguar victory, in conjunction with the Lady Jaguars' 20121
state title, marks the first time in thirty years that a school has claimed boys' and girls' titles2
on the same day at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association basketball championship.3
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the4
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Pelican High School boys' basketball5
team upon winning the 2012 Class C state championship and does hereby extend best wishes6
to the players, coaches, and everyone involved with this fine basketball program as they7
celebrate their exceptional season and prepare for continued success in the future.8
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted9
to Coach Richard Simmons.10
