HLS 12RS-2303 ORIGINAL Page 1 of 3 Regular Session, 2012 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 30 BY REPRESENTATIVE LEGER CONDOLENCES: Expresses condolences upon the death of the Honorable Dominic Carra Grieshaber, Sr. A RESOLUTION1 To express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of the Honorable Dominic2 Carra Grieshaber, Sr. 3 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the4 House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the death of the5 Honorable Dominic Carra Grieshaber, Sr., on Monday, March 26, 2012, at the age of eighty-6 seven; and7 WHEREAS, a native of New Orleans and resident of Covington for the past twelve8 years, Judge Grieshaber attended St. Aloysius School and then St. Joseph Seminary College9 from 1936 until 1942 before serving his country with great honor and fortitude in the United10 States Army during World War II from 1943 until 1946; and11 WHEREAS, Judge Grieshaber received his juris doctorate from Loyola University12 in 1951 and entered private practice; and13 WHEREAS, in 1964, Judge Grieshaber was elected First City Court Judge of New14 Orleans, a position he held continuously for thirty-five years until he reached the maximum15 age at which he was eligible to serve as a judge in the state of Louisiana; and16 WHEREAS, upon his retirement as Chief Judge, Judge Grieshaber was the longest17 sitting judge in the state of Louisiana; and18 WHEREAS, Judge Grieshaber earned local acclaim as the "Marrying Judge" because19 he performed thousands of weddings, including those of several celebrities and those at such20 HLS 12RS-2303 ORIGINAL HR NO. 30 Page 2 of 3 memorable locations as the 1984 World's Fair Gondola, Marie Laveau's Tomb, and the1 atrium at Bultman Funeral Home; and2 WHEREAS, Judge Grieshaber was a member of many professional and social clubs,3 including the New Orleans Spring Fiesta, Camellia Club of New Orleans, Young Men's4 Business Club, South Claiborne Avenue Business Men's Association, New Orleans Ballet5 Foundation, Exchange Club of the Vieux Carre, Knights of Columbus De La Salle Council,6 American Legion Post 307, Greater New Orleans Italian Cultural Society, and several7 carnival organizations, and he was crowned King of Caliphs of Cairo in 1965; and8 WHEREAS, Judge Grieshaber was preceded in death by his parents, George and9 Jennie Carra Grieshaber and his uncle, Rev. Monsignor Raymond Carra; and10 WHEREAS, Dominic Carra Grieshaber is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-three11 years, Inez Perrier Grieshaber; nine children, Dom Carra Grieshaber, Jr., Robyn Ann12 Grieshaber, David George Grieshaber and his wife, Kathleen, Christopher Lee Grieshaber13 and his wife, Paula, William James Grieshaber and his wife, Jayne, Ann Marie Grieshaber14 Serpas, Gretchen Ann Grieshaber Sagona and her husband, Beau, Michael John Grieshaber,15 and Lee Perrier Grieshaber and his wife, Mary; his daughter-in-law, Susan Brands16 Grieshaber; fourteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Agatha17 Grieshaber Schoen and Josephine Grieshaber Wagner; and18 WHEREAS, Judge Greishaber was the kind of citizen who represents what is good19 about Louisiana, a man of wisdom who used his talents and integrity to make the state better;20 and21 WHEREAS, with the death of Dominic Carra Grieshaber, Sr., Louisiana has lost one22 of her finest sons, a man whose accomplishments have left an indelible mark upon the lives23 of all those he touched and the citizens of this great state.24 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the25 Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the26 death of the Honorable Dominic Carra Grieshaber, Sr., does hereby recognize and record for27 posterity the contributions and accomplishments of Judge Grieshaber, an exemplary public28 servant, and does hereby pay tribute to him for the generous and effective way in which he29 dedicated his intelligence to promoting justice.30 HLS 12RS-2303 ORIGINAL HR NO. 30 Page 3 of 3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted1 to the family of Judge Dominic Carra Grieshaber, Sr.2 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
