HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 32
BY REPRESENTATIVE JOHNSON
A RESOLUTION
To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Shelton
Joseph Braud of Marksville.
WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the
House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the death of
Shelton Joseph Braud on Monday, March 12, 2012, at the age of ninety-two; and
WHEREAS, a native of Cornerview, Louisiana, Mr. Braud  graduated  from
Dutchtown High School and Louisiana State University before serving his country during
World War II by fighting with the Polar Bear Regiment (85th Infantry Division, 339th
Infantry Regiment) as an anti-tank unit commander, earning the Bronze Star, among other
commendations, and fighting from Southern Italy to the Brenner Pass in Austria; and
WHEREAS, in 1982, Mr. Braud retired from the Louisiana State University
Agricultural Extension Service, where he worked for thirty-two years in Pointe Coupee, St.
Landry, and Avoyelles parishes; and 
WHEREAS, Mr. Braud earned a master's degree in Extension Education from
Louisiana State University and received the National Association of County Agents
Distinguished Service Award in 1975; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Braud was the Marksville Lions Club Past President, a Fourth
Degree Knight in the Monsignor Van Der Putten Assembly of the Knights of Columbus, and
a member of the American Legion Prevot-Johnson Post Number 130, Veterans of Foreign
Wars, the Marksville Chamber of Commerce, La Commission des Avoyelles, the Arts and
Humanities Council of Avoyelles, and the Louisiana State University Alumni Federation;
and
WHEREAS, Mr. Braud was preceded in death by his parents, Emile Pierre Braud and ENROLLEDHR NO. 32

Hazel Eve "Coeur" Braud, and his sisters, Alvern Carbo, Robbie Kornrumpf, and Lois
Herbez; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Braud is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Marian Bordelon
Braud; four sons, Stephen C. Braud and wife Mary Ann, Stuart P. Braud, Kenneth W. Braud
and wife Jamsie, and Richard K. Braud and wife Georgieanna, and one daughter, Judith E.
Byers and husband Ricky; ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces
and nephews; he is also survived by two brothers, Neelis Braud and wife Bernice and Leon
Braud and one sister, Zilphia Fontenot; and
WHEREAS, although his death has left a tremendous void in his community, Mr.
Braud's memory shall live forever in the minds and hearts of all who were fortunate enough
to know and love him. 
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the
death of Shelton Joseph Braud of Marksville, and does hereby extend true appreciation for
his enduring legacy that will forever continue to be a source of deep pride and honor for his
family, friends, colleagues, and community, the state of Louisiana, and the United States of
America.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the family of Shelton Joseph Braud.
