HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 40

COMMENDATIONS: Commends the La. chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis
Society and welcomes its members to the capitol
A RESOLUTION1
To commend the Louisiana chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and to2
welcome its members to the Louisiana State Capitol.3
WHEREAS, every hour in the United States, someone is newly diagnosed with4
multiple sclerosis, an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system5
that interrupts the flow of information between the brain and the body; and6
WHEREAS, founded in 1972, the Louisiana chapter of the National Multiple7
Sclerosis Society is a not-for-profit agency serving nearly four thousand people with8
multiple sclerosis and their families throughout Louisiana; and 9
WHEREAS, the chapter is headquartered in Metairie, is governed by a voluntary10
board of trustees, and raises funds annually to support its efforts on behalf of those living11
with MS through such campaigns as Walk MS, Bike MS, and the Renaissance Festival; and12
WHEREAS, the chapter also offers educational seminars, a quarterly newsletter,13
teleconferences, information and referral, a lending library, literature, an equipment loan14
closet, financial assistance, programs for those newly diagnosed with MS, and support15
groups; and16
WHEREAS, more than five hundred volunteers help support these worthy efforts by17
sharing their time and talents with the chapter as board members, regional council18
representatives, self-help group leaders, event volunteers, office assistants, and more; and19 HLS 12RS-2734 ORIGINAL

WHEREAS, on Wednesday, April 11, 2012, in conjunction with its 2012 Public1
Policy Conference, the chapter is visiting the Louisiana State Capitol to raise awareness of2
MS throughout the state; and3
WHEREAS, the Louisiana chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society merits4
a special measure of commendation for its steadfast efforts on behalf of those living with5
multiple sclerosis and for the tremendous pride and honor it brings to the state of Louisiana.6
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the7
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Louisiana chapter of the National8
Multiple Sclerosis Society and does hereby welcome its members to the Louisiana State9
Capitol.10
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted11
to the Louisiana chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.12
