CONDOLENCES:  Expresses condolences upon the death of Nancy Mikell Carruth of
Bunkie
A RESOLUTION1
To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Nancy Mikell2
Carruth of Bunkie.3
WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the4
House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the death of Nancy5
Mikell Carruth of Bunkie on Sunday, April 1, 2012, at the age of eighty-four; and6
WHEREAS, Mrs. Carruth was born in Alexandria on December 1, 1927, to Franklin7
Trezevant Mikell and Nanie Haas Mikell; and 8
WHEREAS, Mrs. Carruth was raised in Bunkie at Oak Hall Plantation, graduated as9
valedictorian from Bunkie High School, and was later awarded a doctorate of humane letters10
from Centenary College; and11
WHEREAS, Mrs. Carruth served on numerous international, national, state, and local12
boards, committees, and conferences, and was particularly dedicated to and active in13
endeavors related to Centenary College and the United Methodist Church; and14
WHEREAS, Mrs. Carruth was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Edward15
T. Carruth, her parents, Franklin Trezevant Mikell and Nanie Haas Mikell, and her brother,16
Franklin Haas Mikell; and17
WHEREAS, Mrs. Carruth is survived by her son, William M. Tebow and wife, Joan;18
daughter, Donna T. Taylor and husband, Dr. Wayne Taylor; four grandchildren, Dr. Bryan19
Taylor and wife, Dr. Georgia Taylor, Andrew Taylor and wife, Pamela, Katie T. Warren and20
husband, Brian, and Celeste Tebow; and five great-grandchildren; and21 HLS 12RS-2456	ORIGINAL

WHEREAS, with the death of Nancy Mikell Carruth, Louisiana has lost one of her1
finest citizens, a lady of many gifts and talents who has left an indelible mark on the lives2
of those she touched; and3
WHEREAS, although the death of Nancy Mikell Carruth has left a tremendous void4
in her community, her memory shall live forever in the minds and hearts of all who loved5
her and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.6
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the7
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the8
death of Nancy Mikell Carruth of Bunkie, does hereby record for posterity her outstanding9
accomplishments and singular contributions, and does hereby extend enduring appreciation10
for the tremendous pride and honor that this wonderful woman will forever bring to her11
family, friends, church, community, state, and nation.12
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted13
to the family of Nancy Mikell Carruth.14
