Allmon, Sr., of Baton Rouge A RESOLUTION1 To express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Bishop Richard V. Allmon,2 Sr., of Baton Rouge.3 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the4 Louisiana House of Representatives have learned of the death of Bishop Richard V. Allmon,5 Sr., on Sunday, April 15, 2012, at the age of fifty-seven; and6 WHEREAS, a native of Little Rock, Arkansas, Bishop Richard V. Allmon, Sr., began7 his spiritual journey and ministry in the city of Shreveport before moving to Baton Rouge8 and becoming a widely respected and admired pastor and community leader; and 9 WHEREAS, on August 21, 1954, Bishop Allmon was born to Veodis J. and Erma10 Allmon, and upon graduating from high school near the top of his class, he received a full11 scholarship to the United States Air Force Academy, proudly serving his country for nearly12 five years and achieving the rank of sergeant; and13 WHEREAS, on October 2, 1972, Bishop Allmon married his best friend and14 childhood sweetheart, First Lady Lois S. Allmon, and they were baptized together on15 August 18, 1974; to their union were born twelve children; and 16 WHEREAS, in 1977, Bishop Allmon received his calling to the ministry, and he17 earned his certificate of ordination from the United Pentecostal Church International, an18 associate of theology degree from Christian Life College, a bachelor of arts in Biblical19 studies, and a master of divinity with a specialization in Biblical languages from New20 Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary; and21 HLS 12RS-2836 ORIGINAL HR NO. 56 Page 2 of 3 WHEREAS, with his wife, Bishop Allmon served with great distinction and1 dedication as the senior pastor of Full Gospel United Pentecostal Church in Baton Rouge2 from 1983 until his passing, and they also served together as senior pastors of Tabernacle3 of Truth United Pentecostal Church in Gray; and4 WHEREAS, over the past three decades, Bishop Allmon led his family in the5 development of churches throughout Louisiana and Mississippi and in establishing the S.E.6 Mackey Community and Fitness Center and numerous community outreach facilities,7 educational programs, and ministry alliances; and8 WHEREAS, Bishop Allmon made his family and his ministry his top priorities, and9 his passion for education led to the establishment of Full Gospel Christian Academy; and10 WHEREAS, in addition to his significant local service, Bishop Allmon made his11 mark throughout the state and beyond, serving as Presbyter at Large over the Louisiana12 District of the United Pentecostal Church International and as a member of the executive13 advisory board of the Apostolic Archives International and the nominating committee for14 the Apostolic Ministerial Hall of Fame; and15 WHEREAS, Bishop Allmon was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents,16 Isaac Allmon, Sr., and Virginia Wright; his maternal grandfather, Willie Brown; his17 maternal grandmother, Jessie "Ma Jessie" Momphrey Mitchell; one brother, Greg "Ross"18 Stewart; his mother and father-in-law, Mable Straw Houston and Major Straw, Sr.; and his19 brother-in-law Major Straw, Jr.; and20 WHEREAS, left to cherish Bishop Allmon's memory are his wife of thirty-nine21 years, Lois Straw Allmon; seven sons, Richard, Jr. (Demi), Raymond (Rhonda), Reginald,22 Robert (Shawanda), Reuben, Ryan (Brittany), and Ramahd; five daughters, Renarda Parker,23 Ravonne (Michael) Allmon-Smith, Rachel, Rebecca Allmon-Boatner, and Lois; two24 brothers, Laurence (Carolyn) and Gregory, Sr. (Belva); five sisters, Cynthia (James) Woods,25 Charlotte and Terry Allmon, Carol (Eddie) Watson, and Tracy (Anthony) Jemerson; two26 sisters-in-law, Emma Jean Jones and Mabeline (Louie) Lewis; one brother-in-law, Larry27 (Linda) Straw; ten grandchildren, Romeo Parker, Kristopher and Kaleb Allmon, Logan28 Smith, David Allmon-Haynes, Khobe Allmon, Liyah and Leric Boatner, and Samara and29 Ryan Allmon, Jr.; four aunts, Viola (Richard) Gentry, Katherine Wright-Knight, Paulette30 HLS 12RS-2836 ORIGINAL HR NO. 56 Page 3 of 3 Chatman, and Shelia Brown; an uncle, Jesse (Beverly) Wright; one godson, Anthony1 (Angela) Rogers, Sr.; one goddaughter, Lauren Tillery; and numerous nieces, great-nieces,2 nephews, great-nephews, cousins, church family members, and friends; and3 WHEREAS, Bishop Allmon was the kind of citizen who represents what is good4 about Louisiana, a man of wisdom and faith who used his gifts and talents to change his5 community for the better; and 6 WHEREAS, Bishop Allmon's fellow citizens mourn the loss of this beloved7 individual and share the grief of his family, friends, and congregations at his passing; and8 WHEREAS, Bishop Allmon will forever bring great pride and honor to the Baton9 Rouge community and to the state of Louisiana.10 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the11 Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the12 death of Bishop Richard V. Allmon, Sr., does hereby extend enduring appreciation for his13 outstanding accomplishments and singular contributions during a lifetime of dedication and14 service to God and his family, friends, churches, and community, and does hereby recognize15 that his legacy of kindness and compassion shall live forever in the minds and hearts of all16 who knew and loved him.17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted18 to Sister Lois Allmon.19 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
