ENROLLED Page 1 of 3 Regular Session, 2012 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 56 BY REPRESENTATIVES BARROW, CARTER, FOIL, GREENE, JAMES, PONTI, AND HONORE A RESOLUTION To express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Bishop Richard V. Allmon, Sr., of Baton Rouge. WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the Louisiana House of Representatives have learned of the death of Bishop Richard V. Allmon, Sr., on Sunday, April 15, 2012, at the age of fifty-seven; and WHEREAS, a native of Little Rock, Arkansas, Bishop Richard V. Allmon, Sr., began his spiritual journey and ministry in the city of Shreveport before moving to Baton Rouge and becoming a widely respected and admired pastor and community leader; and WHEREAS, on August 21, 1954, Bishop Allmon was born to Veodis J. and Erma Allmon, and upon graduating from high school near the top of his class, he received a full scholarship to the United States Air Force Academy, proudly serving his country for nearly five years and achieving the rank of sergeant; and WHEREAS, on October 2, 1972, Bishop Allmon married his best friend and childhood sweetheart, First Lady Lois S. Allmon, and they were baptized together on August 18, 1974; to their union were born twelve children; and WHEREAS, in 1977, Bishop Allmon received his calling to the ministry, and he earned his certificate of ordination from the United Pentecostal Church International, an associate of theology degree from Christian Life College, a bachelor of arts in Biblical studies, and a master of divinity with a specialization in Biblical languages from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary; and WHEREAS, with his wife, Bishop Allmon served with great distinction and dedication as the senior pastor of Full Gospel United Pentecostal Church in Baton Rouge ENROLLEDHR NO. 56 Page 2 of 3 from 1983 until his passing, and they also served together as senior pastors of Tabernacle of Truth United Pentecostal Church in Gray; and WHEREAS, over the past three decades, Bishop Allmon led his family in the development of churches throughout Louisiana and Mississippi and in establishing the S.E. Mackey Community and Fitness Center and numerous community outreach facilities, educational programs, and ministry alliances; and WHEREAS, Bishop Allmon made his family and his ministry his top priorities, and his passion for education led to the establishment of Full Gospel Christian Academy; and WHEREAS, in addition to his significant local service, Bishop Allmon made his mark throughout the state and beyond, serving as Presbyter at Large over the Louisiana District of the United Pentecostal Church International and as a member of the executive advisory board of the Apostolic Archives International and the nominating committee for the Apostolic Ministerial Hall of Fame; and WHEREAS, Bishop Allmon was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Isaac Allmon, Sr., and Virginia Wright; his maternal grandfather, Willie Brown; his maternal grandmother, Jessie "Ma Jessie" Momphrey Mitchell; one brother, Greg "Ross" Stewart; his mother and father-in-law, Mable Straw Houston and Major Straw, Sr.; and his brother-in-law Major Straw, Jr.; and WHEREAS, left to cherish Bishop Allmon's memory are his wife of thirty-nine years, Lois Straw Allmon; seven sons, Richard, Jr. (Demi), Raymond (Rhonda), Reginald, Robert (Shawanda), Reuben, Ryan (Brittany), and Ramahd; five daughters, Renarda Parker, Ravonne (Michael) Allmon-Smith, Rachel, Rebecca Allmon-Boatner, and Lois; two brothers, Laurence (Carolyn) and Gregory, Sr. (Belva); five sisters, Cynthia (James) Woods, Charlotte and Terry Allmon, Carol (Eddie) Watson, and Tracy (Anthony) Jemerson; two sisters-in-law, Emma Jean Jones and Mabeline (Louie) Lewis; one brother-in-law, Larry (Linda) Straw; ten grandchildren, Romeo Parker, Kristopher and Kaleb Allmon, Logan Smith, David Allmon-Hayn es, Khobe Allmon, Liyah and Leric Boatner, and Samara and Ryan Allmon, Jr.; four aunts, Viola (Richard) Gentry, Katherine Wright-Knight, Paulette Chatman, and Shelia Brown; an uncle, Jesse (Beverly) Wright; one godson, Anthony (Angela) Rogers, Sr.; one goddaughter, Lauren Tillery; and numerous nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, cousins, church family members, and friends; and ENROLLEDHR NO. 56 Page 3 of 3 WHEREAS, Bishop Allmon was the kind of citizen who represents what is good about Louisiana, a man of wisdom and faith who used his gifts and talents to change his community for the better; and WHEREAS, Bishop Allmon's fellow citizens mourn the loss of this beloved individual and share the grief of his family, friends, and congregations at his passing; and WHEREAS, Bishop Allmon will forever bring great pride and honor to the Baton Rouge community and to the state of Louisiana. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Bishop Richard V. Allmon, Sr., does hereby extend enduring appreciation for his outstanding accomplishments and singular contributions during a lifetime of dedication and service to God and his family, friends, churches, and community, and does hereby recognize that his legacy of kindness and compassion shall live forever in the minds and hearts of all who knew and loved him.
