HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 6

CONDOLENCES:  Expresses condolences upon the death of Donald Joseph Grush
A RESOLUTION1
To express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Donald Joseph Grush.2
WHEREAS, it was with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the3
House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana learned of the death of Donald4
Joseph Grush on Friday, October 14, 2011, at the age of eighty-one; and5
WHEREAS, a New Orleans native, Mr. Grush was a graduate of St. Anthony of6
Padua School and St. Aloysius High School; and7
WHEREAS, Mr. Grush served his country as a member of the United States Coast8
Guard before working at Hiram Walker Distillers, where he retired as a district sales9
representative; and10
WHEREAS, Mr. Grush was an active member of the Barbershop Harmony Society11
for years and sang "lead" in many quartets; and12
WHEREAS, Mr. Grush was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Philip Neri13
Church who for the past thirty years attended Manresa retreats, where he prayed and sang14
with many of his closest friends and family; and15
WHEREAS, Mr. Grush was a great asset to his community and always volunteered16
his time and efforts for projects beneficial to residents of Jefferson Parish, such as when he17
helped Representative Tony Ligi produce an easy-to-use hurricane evacuation map for18
District Seventy-Nine residents; and19
WHEREAS, Mr. Grush was a devoted family member who, from his youth, cared20

WHEREAS, Mr. Grush was blessed with a beautiful and loving wife, Joan Klein1
Grush, with whom he shared fifty-nine wonderful years of his life; and2
WHEREAS, Mr. Grush was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Louis G.3
Grush and Rosalie Spicuzza Grush, and his brother, Dr. Louis G. Grush, DDS; and4
WHEREAS, Mr. Grush is survived by his sisters, Rose Catherine Simoneaux and5
Mary Jane Key; his brother, William Grush; his daughters, Donna Grush Hannan and Faith6
Grush Wakefield; his son-in-law, Doug Wakefield; his grandchildren, Brett Douglas7
Wakefield and wife Lovey, Hope Wakefield Clary and husband Adam, Phillip Matthew8
Hannan, and Tyler Donald Hannan; and his great-grandson, Cooper Anthony Wakefield; and9
WHEREAS, although his death has left a void in his community, Mr. Grush's10
memory shall live forever in the minds and hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know11
and love him and were privileged to experience his smiles, compliments, jokes, antics, and12
impromptu songs.13
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the14
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the15
death of Donald J. Grush and does hereby extend true appreciation for his enduring legacy16
that will forever continue to be a source of deep pride and honor for his family, friends,17
colleagues, and community, the state of Louisiana, and the United States of America.18
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted19
to the family of Donald J. Grush.20
