CONDOLENCES:  Expresses condolences upon the death of Jerry Lee Laborde of Fifth
Ward
A RESOLUTION1
To express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Jerry Lee Laborde of Fifth2
Ward.3
WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the4
Louisiana House of Representatives have learned of the death of Jerry Lee Laborde on5
Thursday, April 19, 2012, at the age of seventy-five; and6
WHEREAS, Jerry Lee Laborde served his country proudly in both the National7
Guard and the United States Marine Corps and fought with valor and fortitude in the Korean8
War; and9
WHEREAS, Mr. Laborde served the Fifth Ward community as the owner and10
operator of the Phillips 66 gas station, school bus driver for the Avoyelles Parish School11
Board, and owner of Jerry Lee's Barber Shop; and 12
WHEREAS, Mr. Laborde was a longtime member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic13
Church and a member of both the Knights of Columbus Council 9818 and the American14
Legion Post #402; and15
WHEREAS, Mr. Laborde is preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and16
Hennessey Laborde, sister, Peggy Blanchard, and brother, Fenwick Laborde; and17
WHEREAS, left to cherish Mr. Laborde's memory are his wife of fifty-four years,18
Marie Laborde; son, Louie Laborde and wife, Mary; daughters, Susan Gunn and husband,19
Jerald, and Tammy Tassin and husband, Scott; six grandchildren, Alana Laborde, Brittany20 HLS 12RS-3127	ORIGINAL

Cannady, Jenna Laborde, Casey Laborde, Tristen Tassin, and Abby Tassin; sisters, Eola1
LaJaunie and husband, Wayne, and Patsy Dubea; and brother, Roland Laborde and wife,2
Maryetta; and3
WHEREAS, Jerry Lee Laborde's fellow citizens mourn the loss of this beloved4
individual and share the grief of his family and friends at his passing; and5
WHEREAS, Mr. Laborde will forever bring great pride and honor to the Fifth Ward6
community and to the state of Louisiana.7
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the8
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the9
death of Jerry Lee Laborde of Fifth Ward, does hereby extend enduring appreciation for his10
outstanding accomplishments and singular contributions, and does hereby recognize that his11
legacy of kindness and compassion shall live forever in the minds and hearts of all who12
knew and loved him.13
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted14
to the family of Jerry Lee Laborde.15
