HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 94
BY REPRESENTATIVE THIBAUT
A RESOLUTION
To commend Virginia Major of New Roads for her dedicated service as a foster parent in
the state of Louisiana.
WHEREAS,  it is with great pride that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana  recognizes the kind heart and generous spirit of Virginia Major;
and
WHEREAS, Virginia Major was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi, and moved to New
Roads as a child; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Major graduated from Poydras High School in New Roads and later
retired from Pointe Coupee General Hospital; and
WHEREAS, Virginia Major became a certified foster parent in 1988 and has fostered
or provided respite to twenty-two foster children; and
WHEREAS, working with the staff from the Louisiana Department of Children and
Family Services, Ms. Major provided a safe and nurturing home for children, assisting them
in maintaining contact with their families and ensuring not only that the children's security
and self-esteem needs were met but also directing them down the path of self-awareness; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Major particularly excelled in her work with teenage children and
adopted one foster child, James German; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Major is also the proud mother of Chad and Kelli and has three
grandchildren, Logan, Brennan, and Dalton; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Major now volunteers with United Methodist Church in New
Roads, caring for the sick and homebound; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Major merits a sincere measure of commendation for her many
years of outstanding service as a foster parent and caretaker of the people of Louisiana. ENROLLEDHR NO. 94

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Virginia Major for being an exceptional
foster parent and citizen, does hereby recognize and record for posterity her singular
contributions to her community, and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the
tremendous pride and honor that she brings to her family and friends, the city of New Roads,
and the state of Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Virginia Major of New Roads.
