HLS 12RS-4232 ORIGINAL Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2012 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 97 BY REPRESENTATIVE JOHNSON COMMENDATIONS: Commends Lynn Cooper upon his retirement as warden of the Avoyelles Correctional Center A RESOLUTION1 To commend Lynn Cooper upon his retirement as warden of the Avoyelles Correctional2 Center.3 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend Lynn Cooper for his exceptional4 achievements and contributions upon his retirement as warden of the Avoyelles Correctional5 Center; and6 WHEREAS, as warden of Avoyelles Correctional Center, Warden Cooper is7 responsible for managing, planning, directing, supervising, and coordinating all phases of8 operation for the care, training, rehabilitation, and welfare of more than one thousand five9 hundred offenders and a staff of more than three hundred; and10 WHEREAS, Warden Cooper has twenty-five years of experience in the field of11 corrections and started his career at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center in February of 1986 as12 a cadet; and13 WHEREAS, between 1986 and 1992, Warden Cooper held the rank of sergeant; he14 was promoted to lieutenant and moved up through the ranks to the position of assistant15 warden in 1999; and16 WHEREAS, in 2001, Warden Cooper became warden of Louis Jetson Correctional17 Center for Youth in Baton Rouge, and he has served with great distinction as warden at18 Avoyelles Correctional Center since 2003; and19 WHEREAS, Warden Cooper's civic and professional affiliations include serving as20 a member of the Marksville Chamber of Commerce, the executive board of North American21 HLS 12RS-4232 ORIGINAL HR NO. 97 Page 2 of 2 Association of Wardens and Superintendents, the board of advisers for the Louisiana1 Technical College/Ward H. Nash Avoyelles Campus, the board and the finance committee2 of the Department of Corrections Credit Union, and Christian Family Worship Center, and3 as president of the Louisiana Association of Wardens; and4 WHEREAS, Warden Cooper is widely respected and admired by his fellow citizens5 for his outstanding professional accomplishments and for his singular contributions to the6 Avoyelles Parish community; and7 WHEREAS, Warden Lynn Cooper merits a special measure of commendation for8 the tremendous pride and honor he brings to Avoyelles Parish and to the state of Louisiana.9 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the10 Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Lynn Cooper upon his retirement as warden11 of the Avoyelles Correctional Center, does hereby recognize and record for posterity his long12 and highly effective career as a dedicated public servant, and does hereby extend to him best13 wishes for continued success and happiness in his future endeavors.14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted15 to Warden Lynn Cooper.16 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
