LOCAL ELECTIONS. Changes the dates for certain municipal and parochial elections.

AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 18:402(D)(2), relative to the election code; to provide for certain2
municipal and parochial elections; to provide for dates for elections to be held in3
2014; and to provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1. R.S. 18:402(D)(2) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:6
ยง402. Dates of primary and general elections7

D. Parochial and municipal elections in a parish containing a municipality9
with a population of three hundred thousand or more. Elections for parochial and10
municipal officers in a parish containing a municipality with a population of three11
hundred thousand or more shall be held every four years, beginning in 2006, as12
follows:13

(2) General elections for parochial and municipal officers shall be held on the15
fourth Saturday after the first Saturday in February of an election year 	except for16

held on the third Saturday in March.1

Morrell (SB 135)
Present law provides that general elections for parochial and municipal officers in a parish
containing a municipality with a population of 300,000 or more will be held on the fourth
Saturday after the first Saturday in February of an election year.
Proposed law retains present law and provides that in 2014 general elections for parochial
and municipal officers will be held on the third Saturday in March.
 
Effective August 1, 2012.
