INSURANCE POLICIES.  Provides an exception to the choice of insurer provision for
certain consumer leases.  (gov sig)
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 9:3334(C), relative to leases of movables; to provide an exception to the2
choice of insurer provision for certain consumer leases; to provide terms and3
conditions of such consumer leases; and to provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1.  R.S. 9:3334(C) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 6

C. The provisions of this Section shall not apply to a consumer lease9
between an employer and employee for a motor vehicle propelled by an internal10
combustion engine using liquefied natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas,11
compressed natural gas, or a combination thereof, as a fuel.12
Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not13
signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature14
by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If15
vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become16
effective on the day following such approval.17 SB NO. 139

DIGEST
Present law provides that a lessee of a consumer lease has the option of purchasing insurance
from an agent or broker of his own selection and of selecting an insurance company
authorized to transact business in this state and which is acceptable to the lessor.
Proposed law creates an exception from present law for a consumer lease between an
employer and employee for a motor vehicle propelled by an internal combustion engine
using liquefied natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas, compressed natural gas, or a
combination thereof, as a fuel.
Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
