TOURISM.  Renames the Tangipahoa Parish Tourist and Film Commission to the
Tangipahoa Parish Tourist Commission. (8/1/12)
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 33:4574(B)(30), 4574.1.1(A)(30), 4574.2(E), and 4574.6,2
relative to the Tangipahoa Parish Tourist and Film Commission; to rename the3
commission; and to provide for related matters.4
Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1. R.S. 33:4574(B)(30), 4574.1.1(A)(30), 4574.2(E), and 4574.6 are hereby7
amended and reenacted to read as follows: 8
§4574. Tourist commissions; creation; purpose; directors; powers9

B. Pursuant to Article VI, Sections 19 and 30 of the Constitution of11
Louisiana, the following commissions and bureaus, hereafter collectively referred12
to in this Chapter as "tourist commissions" or "commissions", are hereby specifically13
created as special districts or commissions. Each such commission shall be a body14
politic and corporate and a political subdivision of the state of Louisiana, composed15
of the following territory:16

(30) Tangipahoa Parish Tourist and Film Commission composed of all the1
territory in Tangipahoa Parish.2

§4574.1.1. Occupancy taxes levied by the commissions4
A. For the purposes set forth in Paragraph (F)(3) of this Section, a5
commission created pursuant to R.S. 33:4574(B) is authorized to levy and collect a6
tax upon the occupancy of hotel rooms, motel rooms, and overnight camping7
facilities within the jurisdiction of the commission. Such tax shall not exceed the8
following percentages of the rent or fee charged for such occupancy:9

E. Notwithstanding the provisions of Subsection B of this Section, or of any15
other law to the contrary, but otherwise in accordance with the provisions of16
Subsection B, the Tangipahoa Parish Tourist and Film Commission may borrow17
money to construct a tourist information center on property leased by the18
commission from the parish provided that the funds are borrowed from a licensed19
financial institution, the loan is secured by a first mortgage upon the immovable20
property of the commission, the sum borrowed is less than the market value of the21
immovable property pledged as security for the loan, and the payments under such22
loan can be repaid out of the revenue anticipated from the tax authorized herein23
during the period in which the loan is to be repaid.24

§4574.6. Tangipahoa Parish Tourist and Film Commission; acquisition of property26
A. Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, the27
Tangipahoa Parish Tourist and Film Commission may acquire, purchase, and lease28
as lessee property, real, personal, or mixed, for carrying out the purposes of the29 SB NO. 178

commission and may sell, lease as lessor, transfer, and dispose of any property or1
interest therein at any time acquired by it. The title to all such property shall be taken2
in the name of the commission.3
B. Notwithstanding the provisions of R.S. 33:4574(F), the Tangipahoa Parish4
Tourist and Film Commission shall be governed by a board of directors of eight5
members appointed by the governing authority of the parish of Tangipahoa for terms6
of three years.7
