Regular Session, 2012 ENROLLED SENATE BILL NO. 318 BY SENATOR MARTINY AND REPRESENTATIVE TALBOT AN ACT1 To enact R.S. 37:693(B)(5), relative to the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land2 Surveying Board; to provide powers, duties, and jurisdiction of the Louisiana3 Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board; to provide relative to the4 licensure of naval architects and marine engineers; and to provide for related matters.5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6 Section 1. R.S. 37:693(B)(5) is hereby enacted to read as follows:7 ยง693. Requirements for licensure as a professional engineer or professional land8 surveyor, and certification as an engineer intern or land surveyor9 intern10 * * *11 B. The minimum requirements for licensure or certification by the board12 shall be as follows:13 * * *14 (5) A professional naval architect or marine engineer shall be either:15 (a) An individual who holds a bachelor of science degree in naval16 architecture and marine engineering, or an equivalent board approved17 curriculum, from an accredited engineering curriculum of four years or more18 approved by the board as being of satisfactory standing, who is of good19 character and reputation, who has twenty or more years of progressive20 SB NO. 318 ENROLLED Page 2 of 3 Coding: Words which are struck through are deletions from existing law; words in boldface type and underscored are additions. engineering experience in work acceptable to the board, and who has satisfied1 the requirements of R.S. 37:694. This Subparagraph shall become null, void,2 and of no further effect from and after December 31, 2015.3 (b) An individual who holds a master of science degree in naval4 architecture and marine engineering, or an equivalent board approved5 curriculum, or two bachelor of science degrees in related engineering curricula,6 from an accredited engineering curriculum approved by the board as being of7 satisfactory standing, who is of good character and reputation, who has fifteen8 or more years of progressive engineering experience in work acceptable to the9 board, and who has satisfied the requirements of R.S. 37:694. This10 Subparagraph shall become null, void, and of no further effect from and after11 December 31, 2015.12 (c) An individual who holds a doctor of philosophy degree in naval13 architecture and marine engineering, or an equivalent board approved14 curriculum, from an accredited engineering curriculum approved by the board15 as being of satisfactory standing, who is of good character and reputation, who16 has ten or more years of progressive engineering experience in work acceptable17 to the board, and who has satisfied the requirements of R.S. 37:694. This18 Subparagraph shall become null, void, and of no further effect from and after19 December 31, 2015.20 (d) An individual who has demonstrated long-standing experience in21 naval architecture, who is of good character and reputation, who has thirty or22 more years of progressive engineering experience in work acceptable to the23 board, and who has satisfied the requirements of R.S. 37:694. This24 Subparagraph shall become null, void, and of no further effect from and after25 December 31, 2015.26 * * *27 Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not28 signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature29 by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana.
