COURTS.  Provides an automobile expense allowance for the Vermilion Parish Clerk of

AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 13:783(D)(7), relative to clerks of court; to provide relative to2
the clerk of court of Cameron Parish, East Feliciana Parish, Vermilion Parish, and3
West Feliciana Parish; to provide for an automobile expense allowance for the clerk4
of court of Cameron Parish, East Feliciana Parish, Vermilion Parish, and West5
Feliciana Parish; and to provide for related matters.6
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:7
Section 1. R.S. 13:783(D)(7) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:8

(7) In Acadia Parish, Cameron Parish, East Feliciana Parish, Iberia Parish,13
Red River Parish, St. Tammany Parish, Tangipahoa Parish, Vermilion Parish, and14
Washington Parish, and West Feliciana Parish the clerks of the district courts of15
those parishes may receive an automobile expense allowance equal to fifteen percent16

dollars of automobile insurance per accident for bodily injury and one hundred1
thousand dollars of automobile insurance per accident for property damage. The2
expense allowance shall come from surplus funds in each of the offices of the clerks3
of court and at no additional expense to the state or local governing authority.4

Present law provides that in Acadia Parish, Cameron Parish, East Feliciana Parish, Iberia
Parish, Red River Parish, St. Tammany Parish, Tangipahoa Parish, Washington Parish, and
West Feliciana Parish, the clerks of the district courts of those parishes may receive an
automobile expense allowance equal to 15% of their annual salary, provided that the clerk
of court maintains $300,000 of automobile insurance per accident for bodily injury and
$100,000 of automobile insurance per accident for property damage. 
Present law further provides that the expense allowance is to come from surplus funds in
each of the offices of the clerks of court and at no additional expense to the state or local
governing authority.
Proposed law retains present law and adds the Cameron Parish clerk of court, East Feliciana
Parish clerk of court, Vermilion Parish clerk of court, and West Feliciana Parish clerk of
court to the list of clerks of court who are allowed to receive an automobile expense
allowance.
Effective August 1, 2012.
