Regular Session, 2012 SENATE BILL NO. 327 BY SENATOR BROOME HOSPITALS. Provides that hospitals offer certain immunizations to inpatients 65 years of age or older. (8/1/12) AN ACT1 To enact R.S. 40:2023, relative to the availability of vaccines for the elderly; to provide for2 availability of certain immunizations for elderly inpatients; and to provide for related3 matters.4 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5 Section 1. R.S. 40:2023 is hereby enacted to read as follows: 6 ยง2023. Availability of immunizations recommended by the Centers for Disease7 Control and Prevention8 Beginning October 1, 2012, and each year thereafter, each general9 hospital licensed under this Chapter shall, during the period from October 110 through March 1 of the following calendar year, in accordance with the latest11 recommendations of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices for12 the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, offer the following13 immunizations to all inpatients sixty-five years of age and older, unless14 contraindicated for a patient and contingent upon the availability of the15 vaccine:16 (1) Immunization against influenza.17 SB NO. 327 SLS 12RS-673 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 Coding: Words which are struck through are deletions from existing law; words in boldface type and underscored are additions. DIGEST Proposed law requires that, beginning October 1, 2012, and each year thereafter, all general hospitals, during the time period from October 1 through the following March 1, offer certain immunizations, as recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices of the CDC, to inpatients aged 65 or older. Proposed law lists the following immunizations: (1) Immunizations for influenza. (2) Immunizations for pneumococcal diseases. Effective August 1, 2012. (Adds R.S. 40:2023)
