BY SENATOR BROWN 
ROADS/HIGHWAYS.  Requires DOTD to accommodate financing adequate lighting and
maintenance related to bridges over the Mississippi River. (8/1/12)
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 48:24.1, relative to bridges; to provide for lighting on any bridge over the2
Mississippi River; and to provide for related matters.3
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:4
Section 1.  R.S. 48:24.1 is hereby enacted to read as follows: 5
ยง24.1. Bridges over the Mississippi River; lighting and maintenance6
The department shall, by itself or in conjunction with the United States,7
or with other states or any agency thereof, or in conjunction with any political8
subdivision, or in conjunction with any public or private entity, provide9
adequate lighting and needed maintenance to any bridge over the Mississippi10
River and grounds on which such bridge sits. The word "provide" in this11
Section shall mean to accommodate the financing of lighting and maintenance12
costs for all bridges over the Mississippi River. 13 SB NO. 369

DIGEST
Proposed law requires DOTD either itself or in conjunction with the United States, or other
states, any political subdivision, or any public or private entity, to provide adequate lighting
and needed maintenance to any bridge over the Mississippi River and grounds on which such
bridge sits.
Proposed law defines the word "provide" as used in this Section to mean to accommodate
the financing of lighting and maintenance costs. 
Effective August 1, 2012.
