(7/1/12) AN ACT1 To enact R.S. 11:411(11), relative to the Louisiana State Employees' Retirement System; to2 provide for system membership; to provide for an effective date; and to provide for3 related matters.4 Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published.5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6 Section 1. R.S. 11:411(11) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 7 ยง411. Eligibility for membership8 The membership of this system shall be as follows:9 * * *10 (11) Employees of the Lafitte Area Independent Levee District.11 Section 2. The cost of this Act, if any, shall be funded with additional employer12 contributions in compliance with Article X, Section 29(F) of the Constitution of Louisiana.13 Section 3. DIGEST Alario (SB 39) Present law provides for membership in the La. State Employees' Retirement System (LASERS). Present law (R.S. 11:412) specifies that for purposes of determining eligibility for membership in LASERS, the legislature shall provide by law whether or not the types of agency service performed by employees, elected officials, and appointed officials of new agencies are within the scope of the provisions of present law. Proposed law retains present law. Present law (R.S. 38:291(Y)) provides for the Lafitte Area Independent Levee District (LAILD), created by Act 475 of the 2007 Regular Session. The Act does not provide for LASERS membership. Proposed law adds employees of LAILD to the membership of LASERS. Effective July 1, 2012. (Adds R.S. 11:411(11))
