AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 56:325.2(A), (B), and (C), relative to saltwater recreational fish;2
to provide requirements of possession; to provide exceptions for possession; to3
provide terms and conditions; and to provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1. R.S. 56:325.2(A), (B), and (C) are hereby amended and reenacted to read6
as follows: 7
ยง325.2. Saltwater recreational fish finfish; total length8
A. All Except as provided elsewhere in this Section, all saltwater9
recreational finfish, except swordfish possessed by a recreational fisherman, shall10
have the head and caudal fin intact until set or put on shore. Swordfish and sharks11
possessed by a recreational fisherman shall not be skinned until set or put on shore.12
Tuna shall retain the caudal fin intact until set or put on shore and those species of13
tuna which have minimum size restrictions may have the head removed as long as14
the carcass length without the head exceeds the minimum size requirement. All15
saltwater recreational finfish shall be measured in accordance with applicable law.16
Any garfish caught or possessed by a recreational fisherman in the saltwater areas17
of the state may have the head and caudal fin removed but, until the fish is set or put18
on shore, it shall retain a strip of skin sufficient to clearly identify the fish.19
B. Except as provided elsewhere in this Section, no person shall possess20
any finfish parts, such as filleted fish, while aboard a vessel on the water. For the21
purpose of consumption at sea aboard the harvesting vessel, a person shall have no22
more than two pounds of finfish parts per person on board the vessel, provided that23
the vessel is equipped to cook such finfish and such finfish does not exceed24
applicable bag limits.25
C.(1) The provisions of this Section shall not apply to 	bait species, the26

(a) Any legally harvested saltwater recreational finfish for which there1
is no size limit, that is being utilized for bait and is not in excess of any daily2
possession limits.3
(b) King or spanish mackerel, if cut up and utilized for bait, so long as4
the carcass is retained with the head and caudal fin intact while such parts are5
in possession aboard a fishing vessel, so that size and number of fish possessed6
may be determined.7
(2) Swordfish possessed by a recreational fisherman shall not be skinned8
until set or put on shore.9
(3) Tuna shall retain the caudal fin intact until set or put on shore, and10
those species of tuna which have minimum size restrictions may have the head11
removed as long as the carcass length without the head exceeds the minimum12
size requirement.13
(4) Any garfish caught or possessed by a recreational fisherman in the14
saltwater areas of the state may have the head and caudal fin removed but, until15
the fish is set or put on shore, it shall retain a strip of skin sufficient to clearly16
identify the fish.17
