WATER QUALITY. Requires annual reports from certain special districts regarding its
groundwater resources. (gov sig)
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 38:3097.8, relative to water quality; to provide for annual reports from certain2
special districts regarding water quality and use and saltwater intrusion or3
encroachment; and to provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1.  R.S. 38:3097.8 is hereby enacted to read as follows:6
ยง3097.8. Annual report regarding ground water quality and saltwater intrusion7
A. On or before January first annually, each water conservation district,8
fresh water district, and groundwater conservation district created by law shall9
submit a written report of the district's groundwater resources to the10
commissioner of conservation, the Ground Water Resources Commission, the11
Ground Water Management Advisory Task Force, the Senate Committee on12
Natural Resources, and the House Committee on Natural Resources and13
Environment.  The report shall include but not be limited to the amount of14
water used for residential, commercial or industrial, or agricultural purposes,15
respectively; actual and projected saltwater intrusion or encroachment; and any16
current or projected sale of water for use outside of the state, including the17 SB NO. 502

amount of water so sold and the price paid by each out-of-state user.1
B.  For purposes of the annual report, the amount of water used for2
agricultural purposes may be estimated.3
Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not4
signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature5
by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If6
vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become7
effective on the day following such approval.8
