STUDENTS. Permits participation of student athletes at certain camps and showcase
opportunities provided that such participation complies with law, policies, guidelines, rules,
and regulations regarding recruitment. (gov sig)
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 17:176(H), relative to extracurricular interscholastic athletic activities; to2
provide relative to participation by student athletes in certain activities; and to3
provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1.  R.S. 17:176(H) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 6
ยง176. Extracurricular activities; interscholastic athletics; participation; standards;7
prohibitions; filming or videotaping; definitions8

H. Notwithstanding any policy, guideline, rule, or regulation to the10
contrary adopted by any legal entity that administers or regulates high school11
extracurricular interscholastic athletic programs in this state, no student12
otherwise eligible to participate in an extracurricular interscholastic athletic13
activity shall be prohibited from participating in any camp or any other14
showcase opportunity, provided that such participation complies with15
applicable law, policies, guidelines, rules, and regulations with regard to college16

Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not1
signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature2
by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If3
vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become4
effective on the day following such approval.5

Proposed law provides that, notwithstanding any policy, rule, or regulation to the contrary
adopted by any legal entity that administers or regulates high school extracurricular
interscholastic athletic programs in this state, no student otherwise eligible to participate in
an extracurricular interscholastic athletic activity shall be prohibited from participating in
any camp or other showcase opportunity, provided that participation complies with
applicable law, policies, guidelines, rules, and regulations with regard to college recruitment.
Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
