Permits student athletes to participate in certain camps or showcase opportunities and provides for eligibility of student athletes who transfer from one nonpublic school to another nonpublic school. (gov sig) AN ACT1 To enact R.S. 17:176(H) and (I), relative to extracurricular interscholastic athletic activities;2 to provide relative to participation by student athletes in certain activities; and to3 provide for related matters.4 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5 Section 1. R.S. 17:176(H) and (I) are hereby enacted to read as follows: 6 ยง176. Extracurricular activities; interscholastic athletics; participation; standards;7 prohibitions; filming or videotaping; definitions8 * * *9 H. I. Notwithstanding Subsection F of this Section or any policy, guideline,1 rule, or regulation to the contrary adopted by any legal entity that administers2 or regulates high school extracurricular interscholastic athletic programs in this3 state, if a student transfers from a nonpublic school to another nonpublic4 school, the student shall be deemed eligible to participate in an extracurricular5 interscholastic athletic program immediately upon transfer, provided that the6 principal of the student's former school does not object in writing to the7 student's participation at the nonpublic school to which the student transferred8 within seven days of the student's transfer.9 Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not10 signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature11 by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If12 vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become13 effective on the day following such approval.14 The original instrument was prepared by Sherri H. Proposed law provides that notwithstanding any provision of present law or any policy, guideline, rule, or regulation adopted by any legal entity that administers or regulates high school extracurricular interscholastic athletic programs in this state, a student who transfers from a nonpublic school to another nonpublic school shall be deemed eligible to participate in an extracurricular interscholastic athletic program immediately upon transfer, provided that the principal of the student's former school does not object in writing to the student's participation at the nonpublic school to which the student transferred within seven days of the student's transfer.
