PUBLIC DEFENDER. Provides requirements for the membership of the Louisiana Public
Defender Board.  (8/1/12)
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 15:146(A)(5), relative to the Louisiana Public Defender Board; to provide2
requirements for the membership of the board; to provide for transition; and to3
provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1.  R.S. 15:146(A)(5) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 6

(5) At least two members of the board shall be appointed from each10
congressional district as those districts are provided for in R.S. 18:1276.1.11

Section 2. Appointments shall be made to bring the Louisiana Public Defender Board13
into compliance with this Act as vacancies occur, whether by expiration of current terms of14
office, resignation, or other events or occurrences.15 SB NO. 570

DIGEST
Present law creates the Louisiana Public Defender Board. The board has 15 members, plus
two ex officio, nonvoting members. 
Proposed law requires that at least two members of the board shall be appointed from each
of the six congressional districts as those districts will be configured on and after January
3, 2013. 
Provides that appointments shall be made to bring the board into compliance with proposed
law as vacancies occur, whether by expiration of current terms, resignation, or other events
or occurrences.
Effective August 1, 2012.
