Regular Session, 2012 ENROLLED SENATE BILL NO. 594 BY SENATOR BROWN AN ACT1 To enact R.S. 17:158(I), relative to school transportation; to provide for the transportation2 of certain students to certain technical colleges; to provide for responsibilities of city,3 parish, and other local public school boards; to allow local school boards to assess4 a fee to students using such transportation; to provide for exemptions; to provide for5 the adoption of rules; and to provide for related matters.6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:7 Section 1. R.S. 17:158(I) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 8 ยง158. School buses for transportation of students; employment of bus operators;9 alternative means of transportation; improvement of school bus10 turnarounds11 * * *12 I. (1) Each city, parish, and other local public school board may provide13 transportation to any full-time student who is twenty years of age or younger14 and attending a technical college campus, that is part of the Louisiana15 Community and Technical College System, within the jurisdictional boundaries16 of the local board. If the closest technical college campus is located outside the17 jurisdictional boundaries of the local school board, the board may facilitate the18 transportation or coordinate with neighboring boards to facilitate19 transportation to the technical college campus.20 (2) The local public school board where the student resides, may assess21 a fee to each student utilizing the transportation services provided pursuant to22 this Subsection, not to exceed the actual cost of providing such transportation,23 including administrative costs.24 (3) The State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education shall adopt25 rules in accordance with the Administrative Procedure Act to implement26 provisions of this Subsection.27 SB NO. 594 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 Coding: Words which are struck through are deletions from existing law; words in boldface type and underscored are additions.
