(8/1/12) AN ACT1 To amend and reenact 47:1923(D)(1), relative to tax assessors; to provide relative to the2 payment of certain insurance premiums for certain retired assessors and assessors'3 employees in the parishes of Caldwell and Lincoln; and to provide for related4 matters.5 Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published.6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:7 Section 1. R.S. 47:1923(D)(1) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:8 ยง1923. Tangipahoa, Tensas, Terrebonne, Union, Vermilion, Vernon, Washington, Webster,1 West Baton Rouge, West Carroll, and West Feliciana, and any parish with a2 population of between ten thousand and eleven thousand according to the latest3 federal decennial census, the assessor shall pay the premium cost of group life,4 dental, group health, hospital, surgical, or other medical insurance for any assessor5 or assessor's employee who retires with at least twenty years of service who is at6 least fifty-five years of age or who retires with at least thirty years of service at any7 age. DIGEST Riser (SB 60) Present law requires that the tax assessor of certain parishes pay the premium cost of group life, dental, health, and other insurance for any assessor or assessor's employee who retires with at least 30 years of service at any age or who retires with at least 20 years of service and is at least 55 years of age. The parishes included are: Acadia, Allen, Ascension, Assumption, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Bienville, Calcasieu, Cameron, Catahoula, Claiborne, Concordia, DeSoto, East Baton Rouge, Franklin, Iberia, Iberville, Jackson, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lafourche, LaSalle, Madison, Morehouse, Natchitoches, Orleans, Ouachita, Plaquemines, Pointe Coupee, Rapides, Red River, Sabine, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. Helena, St. John the Baptist, St. Landry, St. Martin, Tangipahoa, Tensas, Terrebonne, Union, Vermilion, Vernon, Washington, Webster, West Baton Rouge, West Carroll, West Feliciana and any parish with a population of between 10,000 and 11,000 according to the latest federal decennial census (Caldwell and Catahoula from 2010 federal decennial census). Proposed law adds Lincoln Parish to the present law list of parish tax assessors required to pay such insurance premiums and includes Caldwell Parish as a named parish. Proposed law deletes present law population reference for inclusion of certain parishes. Effective August 1, 2012.
