MOTOR VEHICLES.  Provides relative to motor vehicle inspections. (gov sig)
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 32:1306(C)(1) and (2), relative to motor vehicle inspections; to2
require official inspection stations to offer one year and two year certificates of3
inspection; to provide relative to the charge or fee; to provide for technical4
corrections; and to provide for related matters.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1. R.S. 32:1306(C)(1) and (2) are hereby amended and reenacted to read as7
follows: 8

C.(1)(a) An annual A charge or fee shall be charged for each certificate of11
inspection and approval issued, as provided in this Subsection.12
(b) Persons operating an official inspection station shall offer certificates13
of inspection that are valid for both one year and two year periods. The owner14
of the vehicle shall have the option of purchasing a one year or a two year15
certificate. A charge or fee shall be charged for each year of validity of the16
certificate of inspection and approval issued, as provided in this Subsection.17 SB NO. 601

(2) Except as otherwise provided in this Subsection, an annual for each year1
of validity of the certificate issued, a charge or fee of ten dollars shall be charged2
for each certificate of inspection and approval issued, four dollars and seventy-five3
cents of which shall be retained by the operator of the motor vehicle inspection4
station conducting the inspection, four dollars of which shall be transferred to the5
office of state police for use in traffic law enforcement, and one dollar and twenty-6
five cents shall be transferred to the office of motor vehicles for expenses associated7
with the motor vehicle inspection and financial responsibility programs. Included in8
the inspection shall be the adjustment of headlights when needed and mechanically9
practical, at no additional cost to the operator of the motor vehicle inspected.10

Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not12
signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature13
by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If14
vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become15
effective on the day following such approval.16

Present law requires a charge or fee to be charged for each certificate of inspection and
approval issued.
Proposed law retains present law. 
Proposed law requires persons operating an official inspection station to offer certificates
of inspection that are valid for both one year and two year periods. 
Proposed law requires that the owner of the vehicle have the option of purchasing a one year
or a two year certificate.  
Present law requires an annual charge or fee of $10 to be charged for each certificate of
inspection and approval issued. 
Proposed law requires a charge or fee of $10 to be charged for each year of validity of the
certificate of inspection and approval issued.
