Regular Session, 2012 SENATE BILL NO. 618 BY SENATOR NEVERS LSU SYSTEM. Provides for the Louisiana State University Health Services Center-New Orleans. (8/1/12) AN ACT1 To amend and reenact R.S. 17:1519.3, relative to the Louisiana State University Health2 Sciences Center-New Orleans; to provide for certain hospitals and their operations;3 and to provide for related matters.4 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5 Section 1. R.S. 17:1519.3 is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 6 §1519.3. Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center-New Orleans; health7 care services division organization8 A. The division and its component hospitals shall be under the immediate9 direction and control of the LSU HSC–NO subject to the overall direction,10 supervision, and management of the board.11 B. No hospital nor any emergency room may be closed without legislative12 approval. Such The approval may be granted by the legislature either by concurrent13 resolution or by appropriate action in the General Appropriation Act.14 C. If any services are reduced by greater than fifteen percent in2 any one year, legislative approval must be obtained before reducing such services3 greater than fifteen percent in any year for the next three years. Funding may be4 provided by any local, regional, state, federal, or private sources to augment existing5 funding or to restore reduced funding.6 D. In no event shall emergency medical treatment treatments be denied to7 anyone in the nearest general hospital owned or operated by the board.8 E. Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center-New Orleans shall9 furnish to the Senate and House committees on health and welfare the same reports10 that are prepared quarterly and submitted to the Joint Legislative Committee on the11 Budget. Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center-New Orleans shall14 furnish to the Senate and House committees on health and welfare the same reports15 that are furnished to the Louisiana State University Board of Supervisors.
