MOTOR VEHICLES. Provides relative to the automotive technology education fee.

AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 32:1263, relative to distribution and sale of motor vehicles; to2
provide for a fee; to provide for use of the fee; and to provide for related matters.3
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:4
Section 1.  R.S. 32:1263 is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 5
ยง1263. Motor vehicle repairs6
Suppliers of mechanical repairs and services for any vehicle subject to7
regulation pursuant to this Chapter shall provide each consumer with an itemized bill8
indicating repairs and services performed, parts replaced, or materials used, the total9
labor charge, and the identity of the mechanic, repairman, or supplier who performed10
the work.  However, nothing in this Section shall prohibit a supplier of mechanical11
repairs and services from charging a service fee for the use of shop supplies such as12
rags, fender covers, small amounts of fluid, or other items which are not itemized,13
provided that such fee does not exceed five percent of the total invoice for14
mechanical repairs or thirty-five dollars, whichever is less.  Nothing in this Section15
shall prohibit a licensee from charging a fee not to exceed seven dollars for16
investment in automotive technology education in this state.17 SB NO. 620

DIGEST
Present law provides that suppliers of mechanical repairs and services for any vehicle subject
to regulation by present law shall provide each consumer with an itemized bill indicating
repairs and services performed, parts replaced, or materials used, the total labor charge, and
the identity of the mechanic, repairman, or supplier who performed the work.
Present law does not prohibit a supplier of mechanical repairs and services from charging
a service fee for the use of shop supplies such as rags, fender covers, small amounts of fluid,
or other items which are not itemized, provided that such fee does not exceed five percent
of the total invoice for mechanical repairs or $35, whichever is less.
Proposed law retains present law and does not prohibit a licensee from charging a fee not to
exceed seven dollars for investment in automotive technology education in Louisiana.
Effective August 1, 2012.
