LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR. Authorizes the lieutenant governor to perform the duties,
functions and responsibilities of the secretary of culture, recreation and tourism. (8/1/12)
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 36:202(A) and 203, relative to the Department of Culture,2
Recreation and Tourism; authorizes the lieutenant governor to perform the duties,3
functions and responsibilities of the secretary of culture, recreation and tourism; and4
to provide for related matters.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1. R.S. 36:202(A) and 203 are hereby amended and reenacted to read as7
follows: 8
§202.  Officers of the department; compensation for one office only 9
A. The officers of the department shall be the secretary, 	if a secretary is10
appointed, the undersecretary, the deputy secretary if a deputy secretary is11
appointed, and assistant secretaries, each of whom shall be selected and shall12
perform functions as provided in this Title.13

§203.  Secretary of culture, recreation and tourism15
A. There shall may be a secretary of culture, recreation and tourism, who16
shall be appointed by the lieutenant governor with consent of the Senate and who17 SB NO. 622

shall serve at the pleasure of the lieutenant governor at a salary fixed by the1
lieutenant governor, which salary shall not exceed the amount approved for such2
position by the legislature while in session.  The secretary shall serve as the3
executive head and chief administrative officer of the Department of Culture,4
Recreation and Tourism and shall have the responsibility for the policies of the5
department, except as otherwise provided by this Title, and for the administration,6
control, and operation of the functions, programs, and affairs of the department,7
provided that the secretary shall perform his functions under the general control and8
supervision of the lieutenant governor.  Nothing in this Chapter shall be construed9
to alter the present civil service classification of any employee, deputy, or officer of10
the department or to place any such employee, deputy, or officer of the department11
in the office of the lieutenant governor for purposes of civil service classification.12
B.  If a secretary is not appointed as provided by Subsection A of this13
Section, the lieutenant governor shall perform all duties, functions and14
responsibilities of the secretary as are provided by law.15

responsibilities of the secretary of culture, recreation and tourism, in lieu of appointing a
secretary of culture, recreation and tourism, at the discretion of the lieutenant governor.
Effective August 1, 2012.
