SPECIAL DISTRICTS. Provides relative to the Jefferson Parish Communication District's
authority to contract for and fund certain services. (gov sig)
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 33:9124(E), relative to the Jefferson Parish Communication2
District; to provide for the authority to fund certain dispatching services; to provide3
for an effective date; and to provide for related matters.4
Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1.  R.S. 33:9124(E) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 7
§ §9124.  Creation of district; jurisdiction; governing authority; powers8

E. The district may enter into such contracts as it considers necessary or10
desirable to fund fire, and law enforcement, and EMS dispatching services for those11
geographical areas of Jefferson Parish to which such services were physically12
provided from the districts' headquarters as of December 31, 1997.  Fire, and law13
enforcement, and EMS dispatching services funded pursuant to a contract as14
authorized by this Subsection are deemed part of the district's functions and duties15
and may be made available and paid for by the district.16

signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature1
by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If2
vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become3
effective on the day following such approval.4

Present law provides that the Jefferson Parish Communication District may enter into such
contracts as it considers necessary or desirable to fund fire and law enforcement dispatching
services for those geographical areas of Jefferson Parish to which such services were
physically provided from the districts' headquarters.
Proposed law retains present law and provides for the authority of the Jefferson Parish
Communication District to enter into such contracts as it considers necessary or desirable
to fund EMS dispatching services for geographical areas of Jefferson Parish.
Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
