SENATE BILL NO. 685
BY SENATOR LONG 
SCHOOLS. Requires the parents or guardians of public school children to attend at least
one parent-teacher conference per year. (8/1/12)
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 17:406.7, relative to parent-teacher conferences; to require parents to attend2
at least one conference each year; to require local school boards to adopt rules; and3
to provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1.  R.S. 17:406.7 is hereby enacted to read as follows: 6
ยง406.7. Parent-teacher conferences; required attendance; consequences7
A. A teacher shall schedule at least two parent-teacher conferences8
during the first semester each school year. At least one parent or guardian of9
the child shall attend at least one of the scheduled parent-teacher conferences.10
B. Each local public school board shall adopt rules relative to failure of11
the parent or guardian to attend at least one scheduled parent-teacher12
