SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 100
BY SENATORS BROWN, AMEDEE, GARY SMITH AND WARD AND
REPRESENTATIVES BERTHEL OT, GAINES, HARRISON,
LAMBERT, MILLER, PRICE, SCHEXNAYDER, ST. GERMAI N,

LEGIS POWERS/FUNCTIONS.  Create the River Region Caucus of Louisiana.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To establish the River Region Caucus of the Louisiana Senate and the Louisiana House of2
Representatives and to provide relative to the caucus.3
WHEREAS, the River Region Caucus of Louisiana will be composed of the parishes4
of Ascension, Assumption, Iberville, St. Charles, St. James, and St. John the Baptist; and5
WHEREAS, the parish of Ascension is one of the fastest growing parishes in the6
state; and7
WHEREAS, the parish of Assumption produces the most sugar of any parish of8
Louisiana; and9
WHEREAS, the parish of Iberville is known for the archeological efforts made to10
excavate the American Indian burial mounds which are more than seven hundred feet long11
and six feet tall; and12
WHEREAS, the parish of St. Charles is one of the original nineteen parishes and13
extends along both sides of the Mississippi River; and14
 WHEREAS, the parish of St. James has been through a beautiful and historic past15
and has been left with a legacy said to be unmatched by any other parish; and16
WHEREAS, the parish of St. John the Baptist was the second permanent settlement17
in Louisiana and established in the early 1720s by a group of Germans, hence becoming18 SCR NO. 100

known as "La Cote des Allemands" or "The German Coast"; and1
WHEREAS, the combination of these parishes to form the River Region Caucus2
of Louisiana will bring together key components of the remarkable mix of history that make3
up one of the state's unique cultural milieu; and4
WHEREAS, Louisiana would not be Louisiana without the traditions of each parish;5
and6
WHEREAS, recognizing the significant role of Louisianians in these parishes will7
form a diverse caucus and it is appropriate that the Louisiana Senate and the Louisiana8
House of Representatives establish the River Region Caucus of Louisiana.9
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Louisiana Senate and the Louisiana10
House of Representatives of the Legislature establish a River Region Caucus of Louisiana11
and the purpose of the caucus will be to represent and speak for Louisianians in the12
respective parishes and to preserve and enhance the traditions of citizens in Louisiana's13
political arena.14
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the River Region Caucus of Louisiana will15
include all members of the Louisiana Senate and Louisiana House of Representatives16
representing the Senatorial districts two, seventeen, eighteen, and nineteen, and the House17
districts of eighteen, fifty-one, fifty-six, fifty-seven, fifty-eight, fifty-nine, sixty, eighty-one,18
eighty-eight, and ninety-two.19
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the officers of the caucus shall be selected at20
commencement of the first meeting.21
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that appropriate official caucus symbols shall22
demonstrate the ties of the caucus, and its members and shall include the official Louisiana23
motto of union, justice and confidence.24
