GERMAIN, THIBAUT AND WILLMOTT A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To establish the River Region Caucus of the Louisiana Senate and the Louisiana House of Representatives and to provide relative to the caucus. WHEREAS, the River Region Caucus of Louisiana will be composed of the parishes of Ascension, Assumption, Iberville, St. Charles, St. James, and St. John the Baptist; and WHEREAS, the parish of Ascension is one of the fastest growing parishes in the state; and WHEREAS, the parish of Assumption produces the most sugar of any parish of Louisiana; and WHEREAS, the parish of Iberville is known for the archaeological efforts made to excavate the American Indian burial mounds which are more than seven hundred feet long and six feet tall; and WHEREAS, the parish of St. Charles is one of the original nineteen parishes and extends along both sides of the Mississippi River; and WHEREAS, the parish of St. James has been through a beautiful and historic past and has been left with a legacy said to be unmatched by any other parish; and WHEREAS, the parish of St. John the Baptist was the second permanent settlement in Louisiana and established in the early 1720s by a group of Germans, hence becoming known as "La Cote des Allemands" or "The German Coast"; and WHEREAS, the combination of these parishes to form the River Region Caucus of Louisiana will bring together key components of the remarkable mix of history that make up one of the state's unique cultural milieus; and WHEREAS, Louisiana would not be Louisiana without the traditions of each parish; and SCR NO. 100 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, recognizing the significant role of Louisianians in these parishes will form a diverse caucus and it is appropriate that the Louisiana Senate and the Louisiana House of Representatives establish the River Region Caucus of Louisiana. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Louisiana Senate and the Louisiana House of Representatives of the Legislature establish a River Region Caucus of Louisiana and the purpose of the caucus will be to represent and speak for Louisianians in the respective parishes and to preserve and enhance the traditions of citizens in Louisiana's political arena. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the River Region Caucus of Louisiana will include all members of the Louisiana Senate and Louisiana House of Representatives representing the Senatorial districts two, seventeen, eighteen, and nineteen, and the House districts of eighteen, fifty-one, fifty-six, fifty-seven, fifty-eight, fifty-nine, sixty, eighty-one, eighty-eight, and ninety-two. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the officers of the caucus shall be selected at commencement of the first meeting. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that appropriate official caucus symbols shall demonstrate the ties of the caucus, and its members and shall include the official Louisiana motto of union, justice and confidence. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the River Region Caucus of Louisiana shall not be provided any funding, office space, equipment, or staff by the legislature or either house or any agency thereof.
