SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 121
BY SENATOR CORTEZ 
CONDOLENCES.  Express condolences upon the death of George Norris Hebert.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To express the sincere condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of George2
Norris Hebert.3
WHEREAS, George Norris Hebert, a native and resident of Lafayette, Louisiana,4
was the son of the late Isidore Hebert and the former Olita Trahan; and5
WHEREAS, because both parents were deceased when he was a young boy, Mr.6
Hebert was reared by his brother Alfred and his wife, Maisie; and7
WHEREAS, after he graduated from Maurice High School in 1950, he enlisted in8
the United States Air Force and was stationed on bases across the United States and9
England; and10
WHEREAS, after an honorable discharge in 1954, he enrolled in Southwestern11
Louisiana Industrial Institute, now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and married12
Thelma Vincent of Maurice, Louisiana; and13
WHEREAS, after graduating with a bachelor's degree in education, Mr. Hebert began14
his teaching career at Lafayette Elementary School; and15
WHEREAS, he then enrolled in Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge,16
Louisiana to pursue his master's degree in education; and17
WHEREAS, while Mr. and Mrs. Hebert raised their three children, Kaaren, Sonya,18 SCR NO. 121

and Kevin, Mr. Hebert continued his education achieving his plus-thirty specialization and1
assumed the position of guidance counselor at Lafayette High School; and2
WHEREAS, with the opening of Woodvale Primary School in Lafayette, Louisiana,3
he was selected as the school's first principal; and4
WHEREAS, Mr. Hebert next assumed the position of principal at L.J. Alleman5
Elementary School until he accepted a transfer to a supervisory post at the Lafayette Parish6
School Board, remaining there until his retirement in 1982; and7
WHEREAS, placing great value on education, he recognized the importance of8
having fun and enjoying family and friends; and9
WHEREAS, Mr. Hebert loved all sports and played, coached, and was a referee to10
varied high school basketball games; and11
WHEREAS, he loved coaching his daughter's softball teams for many years, gaining12
many more 'daughters' and numerous friends; and13
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Hebert then became avid travelers in their recreational14
vehicle and became active members of the Crusin' Cajuns, Les Amis, Texas Outlaws, and15
The Friend RV clubs for more than twenty years; and16
WHEREAS, he was asked to serve on several committees with the national Family17
Motor Coach Association, where he enjoyed amazing travels; and18
WHEREAS, Mr. Hebert's greatest enjoyment was his love for gardening, from his19
large daylily garden, sharing plants with family, friends, and neighbors; and20
WHEREAS, George Norris Hebert died on May 6, 2012, at the age of eighty; and21
WHEREAS, he is survived by his wife Thelma Vincent Hebert of Lafayette,22
Louisiana; two daughters, Kaaren Hebert of Lafayette and Sonya Hebert and her husband23
John of Lafayette, Louisiana; one son, Kevin Hebert of Baltimore, Maryland; two24
grandchildren, Justin and Scott Hebert of Lafayette, Louisiana; one sister, Wilda Hebert of25
Carencro, Louisiana; and one brother, J.C. Hebert and his wife Mary of Lake Charles,26
Louisiana; and27
WHEREAS, all who knew Mr. Hebert, will forever remember his love and28
dedication to his family, to education, to enjoying life, traveling, and gardening as well as29
being a loving brother, husband, father, and friend.30 SCR NO. 121

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby1
express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of George Norris Hebert, and does2
hereby extend enduring appreciation for the pride and honor that this amazing man will3
forever bring amazing memories to those he loved, taught, befriended, traveled with, and4
coached.5
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the6
family of Mr. George Norris Hebert.7
