SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 121

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To express the sincere condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of George
Norris Hebert.
WHEREAS, George Norris Hebert, a native and resident of Lafayette, Louisiana,
was the son of the late Isidore Hebert and the former Olita Trahan; and
WHEREAS, because both parents were deceased when he was a young boy, Mr.
Hebert was reared by his brother Alfred and his wife, Maisie; and
WHEREAS, after he graduated from Maurice High School in 1950, he enlisted in
the United States Air Force and was stationed on bases across the United States and
England; and
WHEREAS, after an honorable discharge in 1954, he enrolled in Southwestern
Louisiana Industrial Institute, now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and married
Thelma Vincent of Maurice, Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, after graduating with a bachelor's degree in education, Mr. Hebert began
his teaching career at Lafayette Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, he then enrolled in Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge,
Louisiana, to pursue his master's degree in education; and
WHEREAS, while Mr. and Mrs. Hebert raised their three children, Kaaren, Sonya,
and Kevin, Mr. Hebert continued his education achieving his plus-thirty specialization and
assumed the position of guidance counselor at Lafayette High School; and
WHEREAS, with the opening of Woodvale Primary School in Lafayette, Louisiana,
he was selected as the school's first principal; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Hebert next assumed the position of principal at L.J. Alleman
Elementary School until he accepted a transfer to a supervisory post at the Lafayette Parish
School Board, remaining there until his retirement in 1982; and
WHEREAS, placing great value on education, he recognized the importance of
having fun and enjoying family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Hebert loved all sports and played, coached, and was a referee to SCR NO. 121	ENROLLED

varied high school basketball games; and
WHEREAS, he loved coaching his daughter's softball teams for many years, gaining
many more 'daughters' and numerous friends; and
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Hebert then became avid travelers in their recreational
vehicle and became active members of the Crusin' Cajuns, Les Amis, Texas Outlaws, and
The Friend RV clubs for more than twenty years; and
WHEREAS, he was asked to serve on several committees with the national Family
Motor Coach Association, where he enjoyed amazing travels; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Hebert's greatest enjoyment was his love for gardening, from his
large daylily garden, sharing plants with family, friends, and neighbors; and
WHEREAS, George Norris Hebert died on May 6, 2012, at the age of eighty; and
WHEREAS, he is survived by his wife Thelma Vincent Hebert of Lafayette,
Louisiana; two daughters, Kaaren Hebert of Lafayette and Sonya Hebert and her husband
John of Lafayette, Louisiana; one son, Kevin Hebert of Baltimore, Maryland; two
grandchildren, Justin and Scott Hebert of Lafayette, Louisiana; one sister, Wilda Hebert of
Carencro, Louisiana; and one brother, J.C. Hebert and his wife Mary of Lake Charles,
Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, all who knew Mr. Hebert, will forever remember his love and
dedication to his family, to education, to enjoying life, traveling, and gardening as well as
being a loving brother, husband, father, and friend.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of George Norris Hebert, and does
hereby extend enduring appreciation for the pride and honor that this amazing man will
forever bring amazing memories to those he loved, taught, befriended, traveled with, and
coached.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
family of Mr. George Norris Hebert.
