Commends the Children's Miracle Network of Southwest Louisiana for its many contributions to local pediatric health services. A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1 To commend the Children's Miracle network of CHRISTUS St. Patrick Hospital on the2 occasion of twenty-five years of service to Southwest Louisiana.3 WHEREAS, this year's telecast marks the twenty-fifth annual telethon for the4 children's Miracle Network of Southwest Louisiana; and5 WHEREAS, its parent company, Children's Miracle Network (CMN), has6 contributed more than four billion dollars to fund medical care, research, and health outreach7 initiatives that have helped to improve the lives of thousands of pediatric patients since its8 founding in 1983; and9 WHEREAS, CMN collaborates with individuals, organizations, and media partners10 to fund medical technology upgrades and health education opportunities that benefit its11 member hospitals and foundations and raises funds for over one hundred seventy children's12 hospitals across North America; and13 WHEREAS, it is the mission of CMN that every child deserves the hope and healing14 available from a hospital in his community, care that contributes to the childs' overall health15 and well being; and16 WHEREAS, through CMN children of all ages, backgrounds and circumstances can17 receive medical treatment for every imaginable disease and injury; and18 SCR NO. 131 SLS 12RS-4787 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 3 WHEREAS, CMN provides the much needed infrastructure for grassroots1 community fund-raising efforts through its corporate events, radio and television broadcast2 and other local happenings that generate donations to local providers of life-saving care and3 crucial services for children in Southwest Louisiana; and4 WHEREAS, CHRISTUS St. Patrick Hospital has featured and celebrated the miracle5 stories of over fifty champion children whose lives were touched through its CMN fund-6 raising efforts in Southwest Louisiana including the following Miracle Kids: Justin7 Schexnider (1988), Chad Ardoin (1988); Jessica Johnson (1988), Crystal Spikes (1989),8 Terry Victorian (1989), Jason Alexander (1989), Casey Duhon (1989), Cory Wilson (1989),9 Casey Roberts (1990), Aaron Siller (1990), Joshua Keys (1991), Tiffany Thibodeaux (1991),10 Jason, Justin, and Jared Stolz (1991), Ainsley DeSonier (1992), Mary Lucie Monk (1992),11 Brittany Vincent (1993), Tiffany Guidry (1993), Matthew Richard (1993), Brock Patin12 (1994), Braun Bourque (1994), Tony Chaumont (1995), Kelly Bancuk (1995), Melissa13 Landry (1996), Phillip Vincent (1996), Rick Alston (1996), Marcus Charles (1997), Hollie14 Maddox (1997), John Hurley (1998), Zachary Lyons (1998), Christopher Voorhies (1999),15 Lanie Warner (1999), Demikol Coker (2000), Abe Reeves (2000), Zachary Lofton (2001),16 Alise Citizen (2001), Rayleigh, Tanner, Hunter, and Alexandria Turner (2002), Marcus17 Hughes (2003), Casey Trahan (2004), Nathan and Bradley Rowell (2005), Justin Hunter18 Cooley (2006), Kaitlyn Hathaway (2007), Marcus Carter (2008), Taylor Oliver (2008), Ian19 Loop (2008), Devin Fontenot (2009), Erica Weldon (2010), and Taylor Oliver (2011); and20 WHEREAS, Children's Miracle Network has provided financial support to its21 community partner, CHRISTUS St. Patrick Hospital of Lake Charles, Louisiana, a premier22 pediatric health services provider; and23 WHEREAS, funding from local CMN efforts was instrumental in the implementation24 of an advanced ear, nose, and throat navigational surgery system at St. Patrick Hospital used25 in the treatment of pediatric sinus patients that improves surgical outcomes and reduces26 recovery times; and27 WHEREAS, CHRISTUS St. Patrick Hospital has renewed its support from CMN28 fund-raising efforts for the children of Southwest Louisiana on its Twenty-Fifth Anniversary29 Celebration; and30 SCR NO. 131 SLS 12RS-4787 ORIGINAL Page 3 of 3 WHEREAS, grants from CMN fund-raising efforts provides much needed funding1 to other worthwhile community organizations, such as CHRISTUS St. Patrick Hospital2 School-Based Health Centers, the Automated External Defibrillators program with the3 Calcasieu Parish School Board and the Diocese of Lake Charles, Camp Bon Coeur for4 children with heart defects, the McNeese State University Immunization Clinic, and Kid5 Power of Southwest Louisiana.6 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby7 commend the Children's Miracle Network of CHRISTUS St. Patrick Hospital for its many8 contributions to local pediatric health services.9 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby10 congratulate all of the champions assisted by the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.11 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to all12 of the Miracle Kids and to the Children's Miracle Network of CHRISTUS St. Patrick13 Hospital.14 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by James Benton.
