GERMAIN, TALBOT, THIBAUT, THIERRY, THOMPSON, WHITNEY, ALFRED WILLIAMS, PATRICK WILLIAMS AND WILLMOTT A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To commemorate the 225th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution of the United States. WHEREAS, the American Revolution secured the independence of the United States of America and made possible the vibrant system of self-government of the United States; and WHEREAS, the supporters of the American Revolution, through their vision and determination, enhanced the lives of countless individuals and made possible the system of equal justice, limited government, and the rule of law that exists in the United States; and WHEREAS, the Constitution of the United States, a revered and living document, provides important rights to every citizen of the United States; secures ''the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity''; and sets the standard of democracy for the world; and WHEREAS, the Constitution and the subsequent twenty-seven amendments to the Constitution outline the freedoms and the principles of representative government that are as strong today as they were on that momentous occasion in 1787; and WHEREAS, September 17, 2012, marks the 225th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution of the United States and provides a historic opportunity for all Americans to SCR NO. 150 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 remember the achievements and vision of our Founding Fathers and to reflect on the actions and sacrifices of Americans, who, for the past two hundred twenty-five years, have defined the words of the Constitution by exercising their rights and responsibilities as citizens; and WHEREAS, the Constitution is fundamentally predicated on governance by "We the People", making citizen understanding of the Constitution and its framework an essential element of the future of our country and the civic health of its populace; and WHEREAS, members of organizations such as the Louisiana Society of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Louisiana Society, Daughters of the American Revolution play an important role in promoting patriotism, preserving the history of the United States, and educating the public about the rights and responsibilities of citizenship. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana hereby commemorates the 225th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution of the United States on September 17, 2012. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all Louisiana citizens are urged and encouraged to renew and deepen their appreciation of the unique and precious heritage passed on to us in the wisdom and foresight of our Founders through the United States Constitution. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the legislature acknowledges the continuing contributions made by the members, volunteers, and staff of historical, educational, and patriotic societies of Louisiana, such as the Louisiana Society of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Louisiana Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, in promoting patriotism and the values embodied in the Constitution of the United States. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the Louisiana Society of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Louisiana Society, Daughters of the American Revolution.
