Requests the Department of Health and Hospitals to submit a report to the Legislature of Louisiana that addresses how the department and its contractors combat Medicaid fraud and abuse. A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1 To urge and request the Department of Health and Hospitals to prepare and submit a report2 to the Legislature of Louisiana that details how the department and its contractors3 plan to combat Medicaid fraud and abuse.4 WHEREAS, the United States Government Accountability Office has designated5 Medicaid as a high risk program because it is particularly vulnerable to fraud, waste, abuse,6 and improper payment; and7 WHEREAS, Medicaid is specifically considered high risk because of concerns about8 the adequacy of its fiscal oversight to prevent inappropriate spending; and9 WHEREAS, the Department of Health and Hospitals has taken proactive steps in its10 fight against Medicaid fraud and abuse; and11 WHEREAS, at full implementation the Bayou Health program will have12 approximately nine hundred thousand Medicaid patients, and the plan providers will have13 financial incentives to combat Medicaid fraud and abuse.14 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby15 urge the Department of Health and Hospitals to prepare and submit a report to the legislature16 that details how the department and its contractors plan to combat Medicaid fraud and abuse.17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Health and Hospitals shall18 SCR NO. 2 SLS 12RS-257 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 report its findings to the legislature no later than February 1, 2013.1 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the2 secretary of the Department of Health and Hospitals.3 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Christopher D.
