Extends sincere condolences on the death of Reverend Lucien R. Garrett Sr. A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1 To express the sincere condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of2 Reverend Lucien R. Garrett Sr.3 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret that the passing of Reverend Lucien R. Garrett Sr.4 on March 14, 2012, at age seventy-four, in Thibodaux, Louisiana has been learned; and 5 WHEREAS, Lucien R. Garrett was born in New Orleans on June 28, 1937, to the6 union of Isaac N. Garrett Sr. and Winnie Ellis Garrett of Vacherie, Louisiana; and 7 WHEREAS, while he was a minister of music at the First Baptist Church in Vacherie8 in 1957, he met Ella Mae Moses, who was one of the choir members, and on March 1, 1958,9 they married and this union was blessed with eight children; and10 WHEREAS, his ministry as pastor began in 1961 at the New Pilgrim Baptist Church11 in Vacherie and in 1969, he became pastor at the Mt. Bethel Baptist Church of12 Donaldsonville, Louisiana; and13 WHEREAS, he became pastor of the First Baptist Church in Vacherie where he14 served until his retirement in 2009; and15 WHEREAS, Reverend Garrett constantly provided training for every auxiliary in the16 church exposing them to the truths and knowledge of what he expected of them by the17 church, and his wife stood beside him, supporting his aspiration, and catering to his interests;18 SCR NO. 33 SLS 12RS-1226 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 and1 WHEREAS, Reverend Garrett is survived by his wife; eight children, Lorena2 (James), Lucien Jr., Rouxie (Robert), Carla (Lambert), Rodney, John, Brian (Leticia), and3 Jay (Cenedra); one sister Bernadine Garrett; eight grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews,4 cousins, brothers, and sisters-in-law; other relatives, and friends to cherish his memories.5 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana hereby extends6 sincere condolences to the family of Reverend Lucien R. Garrett Sr. on the occasion of his7 death, expresses enduring appreciation for his outstanding accomplishments and singular8 contributions during a lifetime of dedication and service to God and his family, friends,9 church, and community, and recognizes Reverend Garrett's legacy of kindness and10 compassion shall live forever in the minds and hearts of all who knew and loved him.11 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Ella12 Mae Moses Garrett.13 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Jerry J.
