Requests that DOTD study feasibility of authorizing the collection of tolls to complete I-49 South. A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1 To urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to study the2 feasibility of authorizing the collection of tolls to complete I-49 South.3 WHEREAS, completion of I-49 South through Lafayette and between Lafayette and4 New Orleans is vital to Louisiana and its citizens in order to provide needed transportation5 infrastructure for hurricane evacuation and economic development and to mitigate traffic6 congestion, particularly in Lafayette; and7 WHEREAS, since 2008 the Jindal administration has invested more than one8 hundred twenty-million dollars toward completion of the I-49 South corridor; and9 WHEREAS, more than one hundred miles of the total one hundred fifty-six mile10 corridor of I-49 South are complete or currently under construction; and11 WHEREAS, the department is pursuing additional sources of funding to complete12 the remaining phases of I-49 South, including application for funds available under the13 Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act; and14 WHEREAS, it is vital to Louisiana that the department pursue all means of finance,15 including tolls, to accelerate completion of the I-49 corridor. 16 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby17 urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to study the feasibility18 SCR NO. 38 SLS 12RS-1201 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 of authorizing the collection of tolls to complete I-49 South, and to submit a written report1 of its findings and recommendations to the Senate Committee on Transportation, Highways,2 and Public Works and the House Committee on Transportation, Highways, and Public3 Works not later than December 13, 2012.4 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the5 secretary of the Department of Transportation and Development.6 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Sharon F.
