CONDOLENCES.  Express condolences upon the death of Deputy Sheriff Randall L.
Benoit, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To express the sincere and heartfelt condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the2
death of Deputy Sheriff Randall L. Benoit of the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office.3
WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and great sadness that the citizens of Louisiana4
have learned of the untimely death of Deputy Sheriff Randall L. Benoit of the Calcasieu5
Parish Sheriff's Office, a law enforcement officer who served and protected Louisiana and6
those in his community with great conviction and purpose; and7
WHEREAS, he was born on May 9, 1970, a native of Sulphur, graduating from8
Sulphur High School in 1988 and was a 1991 graduate of Calcasieu Regional Training9
Academy as a Post Certified Law Enforcement Officer; and10
WHEREAS, Deputy Benoit joined the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office in 198911
serving in many capacities throughout the years, as a correctional officer, patrol officer,12
narcotics deputy, and at the time of his death, a process server; and13
WHEREAS, Randall (Randy) Benoit was a committed and highly admired citizen14
of Louisiana who worked tirelessly on a multitude of business, civic, political, and religious15
causes throughout his life; and16
WHEREAS, he was a loving, dedicated, and devoted husband to his wife, Katherine17
(Kathy) Baker Benoit, a committed father and step-father, grandfather and a cherished son,18 SCR NO. 63

brother, nephew and uncle whose love of family was of utmost importance in his life; and1
WHEREAS, he was a devout member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church2
of Sulphur, Louisiana; and3
WHEREAS, Randy Benoit left behind a legacy filled with fairness, honesty, and4
integrity which truly remains an inspiration to us all and this extraordinary man personified5
a true gentle kindness, determination and compassion, as he lived his everyday life to the6
fullest; and7
WHEREAS, Randy Benoit has been referred to with every positive adjective8
imaginable, because he was the kind of man you just liked and wanted to be his friend, the9
kind of man that legends are made of, and few people will ever be remembered with such10
fondness and admiration; his personality was a gift and no matter how bad a situation was11
his source of comic relief, knew how to put people at ease in the worst of situations and12
often referred to himself in the third party as "Benoit" and he loved to be outside and was13
quite the avid outdoorsman and was a proud member of the CPSO Bass Club; and14
WHEREAS, Deputy Sheriff Benoit served the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office for15
almost two decades and will be forever remembered for the strength, courage, and bravery16
he displayed through his love for life, which now will live on through his family and all17
those who knew him; and18
WHEREAS, because of his numerous accomplishments in public and private life,19
the death of Randall L. Benoit has left a tremendous void in his family, friends, and20
community, and all of Louisiana feels a genuine sense of profound sorrow; and21
WHEREAS, this loved and respected man will be greatly missed by those he left22
behind, and his rare and selfless service will make him an ideal model for future law23
enforcement officers and those who aspire to follow in his footsteps; and24
WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,25
and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon extraordinary26
men like Randall L. Benoit who dedicated their lives to protect others.27
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby pay28
tribute to the life of Randall L. Benoit for his contributions to his community and to29
Louisiana and does express condolences to his family and friends upon his untimely death.30 SCR NO. 63

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be presented to the1
family of Randall L. Benoit.2
