SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 7

COMMENDATIONS.  Commends the LSU Tigers football team on an outstanding season.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To commend and congratulate the Louisiana State University football team on culminating2
an outstanding season by capturing the 2011 SEC Championship and earning a No.3
2 national ranking.4
WHEREAS, upon the completion of the 2011 football season, it is appropriate that5
the achievements of LSU head coach Les Miles and his team be commended and celebrated;6
and7
WHEREAS, Coach Miles and his team took on the best that college football could8
offer and brought home an outstanding 13-1 record, while garnering the Southeastern9
Conference championship; and10
WHEREAS, in the season's opening game versus the No. 3 ranked University of11
Oregon, the No. 4 ranked Tigers throttled the Ducks 40-27 in a game at Cowboys Stadium12
in Arlington, Texas, where LSU had outstanding performances on offense, defense, and13
special teams; in the first home game of the season, LSU defeated Northwestern State14
University,49-3; the Tigers earned a 19-6 victory over Mississippi State in Starkville, with15
a suffocating defense that allowed only 193 yards and had 15 tackles for loss; making the16
program's first trip to Morgantown, West Virginia, LSU defeated the sixteenth ranked West17
Virginia Mountaineers 47-21, ignited by a 99-yard kickoff by Morris Claiborne; at home in18 SCR NO. 7

Death Valley, the Tigers defeated Kentucky, 35-7, highlighted by Tyrann Mathieu's sack,1
strip, scoop, and score; before a home crowd of 93,022, the Tigers defeated the Florida2
Gators 41-11, posting its largest victory over Florida since 1971; in Neyland Stadium in3
Knoxville, Tennessee, LSU scored its largest-ever win over the Volunteers with a score of4
38-7; behind a strong offensive performance by Rueben Randle, the Tigers defeated the5
nationally ranked Auburn Tigers 45-10; in an epic match-up of No. 1 versus No. 2, the top-6
ranked Fighting Tigers, behind Drew Alleman's three clutch field goals, including the game7
winner in overtime, defeated the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa; LSU became 10-08
for the first time since 1958 with a 42-9 homecoming victory over Western Kentucky; with9
a running game racking up 353 yards and four touchdowns and a defense producing two10
touchdowns of their own, LSU beat Ole Miss 52-3 in Oxford; in a battle to determine the11
Southeastern Conference Western Division champion, No.1 LSU defeated the No. 3 ranked12
Arkansas Razorbacks at Tiger Stadium 41-17 and earned a trip to Atlanta's Georgia Dome13
to play in the Southeastern Conference Championship game with a regular season record of14
12-0; and15
WHEREAS, the Tigers met the Eastern Division champion, the University of16
Georgia Bulldogs, in the 2011 Southeastern Conference Championship game, and behind17
the spectacular play of the game's most valuable player, Tyrann Mathieu, LSU overcame a18
sluggish first half and defeated the Bulldogs 42-10 for LSU's eleventh league title and a spot19
in the 2011 BCS National Championship game; and20
WHEREAS, with a lineup of five All-Americans, a crushing defense, a smash-mouth21
offense, and game-changing special teams, under the leadership of the Associated Press22
National Coach of the Year, Les Miles, and Broyles Award winner, John Chavis, LSU went23
undefeated in its regular season; and24
WHEREAS, LSU football's outstanding accomplishments bring immense pride and25
distinguished honor to the state of Louisiana, Louisiana State University, and all persons26
who associate with the Purple and Gold.27
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby28
commend and congratulate the Louisiana State University football team on an outstanding29
season by capturing the 2011 SEC Championship and earning a national ranking of No. 2.30 SCR NO. 7

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to1
Louisiana State University Head Football Coach Les Miles.2
