SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 73
BY SENATOR CROWE 
CONGRESS. Memorialize Congress and requests the President to maintain steadfast
support for the State of Israel and expresses vigorous support and unwavering commitment
to the welfare, security, and survival of the State of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state
with secure borders.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To memorialize the Congress of the United States and to urge and request the President of2
the United States to maintain steadfast support for the State of Israel and express3
vigorous support and unwavering commitment to the welfare, security, and survival4
of the State of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state with secure borders.5
WHEREAS, there has been established and recognized Jewish communities6
throughout the state of Louisiana since the early eighteenth century and in 1828, the first7
Jewish congregation was formed in Louisiana, located in New Orleans, known as the Gates8
of Mercy Synagogue; and 9
WHEREAS, the United States of America and the State of Israel have a long history10
of friendship and are great allies in support of each other's interest; and11
WHEREAS, on Friday, January 9, 2009, the 111
th
 Congress passed House Resolution12
34 with overwhelming support which recognized Israel's right to defend itself against attacks13
from Gaza, passing with three hundred and ninety votes "yea", five votes "nay", twenty-two14
voting "present" and sixteen not voting; and15
WHEREAS, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob promised in Genesis 12:3 to bless16
those that bless Israel, through the promise He made to Abraham, as follows:  "And I will17
bless them that bless thee, and curse them that curseth thee: and in thee shall all the families18 SCR NO. 73

of the earth be blessed."; and1
WHEREAS, the State of Israel and the United States each continue to experience2
terrorist attacks on innocent civilians, as well as our military personnel, as a result of suicide3
missions and other forms of terrorism; and4
WHEREAS, at this time of continued uncertainty in the world, Louisiana again5
desires to reaffirm its desire that the United States of America remain a strong and6
unequivocal supporter of the State of Israel.7
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby8
memorialize the Congress of the United States and urges and requests the President of the9
United States to maintain steadfast support for the State of Israel and express vigorous10
support and unwavering commitment to the welfare, security, and survival of the State of11
Israel as a Jewish and democratic state with secure borders.12
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution shall be transmitted13
to the secretary of the United States Senate, the clerk of the United States House of14
Representatives, each member of the Louisiana delegation to the United States Congress,15
the office of the President of the United States of America, and the Israeli Embassy in16
Washington, D.C. for transmission to the proper authorities in the State of Israel.17
