Commemorates the 225 th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution and recognizes the contributions of the National Society, Sons of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the American Revolution National Society. A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1 To commemorate the two hundred twenty-fifth anniversary of the signing of the2 Constitution of the United States of America and to recognize the contributions of3 the National Society, Sons of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the4 American Revolution National Society.5 WHEREAS, the American Revolution secured the independence of the United States6 of America and made possible the vibrant system of self-government; and7 WHEREAS, the supporters of the American Revolution, through their vision and8 determination, enhanced the lives of countless individuals and made possible the system of9 equal justice, limited government, and the rule of law that exists in the United States; and10 WHEREAS, the people who fought in the American Revolution made great11 sacrifices for their fledgling country; and12 WHEREAS, the fifty-five delegates who attended the Constitutional Convention in13 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, two hundred twenty-five years ago, and the thirty-nine delegates14 who signed the Constitution of the United States at the Constitutional Convention,15 irrevocably changed the course of history; and16 WHEREAS, the Constitution of the United States, a revered and living document,17 provides important rights to every citizen, secures "the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and18 SCR NO. 80 SLS 12RS-2883 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 3 our Posterity", and sets the standard of democracy for the world; and1 WHEREAS, the delegates to the Constitutional Convention in 1787 established the2 imperative precedent of compromise; and3 WHEREAS, the Constitution, and the subsequent twenty-seven amendments, outline4 the freedoms and the principles of representative government that are as strong today as they5 were on that momentous occasion in 1787; and6 WHEREAS, September 17, 2012, marks the two hundred twenty-fifth anniversary7 of the signing of the Constitution of the United States, which is the supreme law of the land8 and the document by which the citizens of the United States govern their great country; and9 WHEREAS, to venerate the immeasurable importance of the Constitution on the day10 on which it was signed, it is essential to continually educate the citizenry and celebrate the11 principles and legacy of the founding fathers; and12 WHEREAS, members of organizations such as the National Society, Sons of the13 American Revolution and the Daughters of the American Revolution National Society play14 an important role in promoting patriotism, preserving the history of the United States, and15 educating the public about the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.16 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby17 commemorate the two hundred twenty-fifth anniversary of the signing of the Constitution18 of the United States on September 17, 2012, and remembers the sacrifices made by the19 people who made the signing possible.20 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana applauds the21 continuing contributions made by the members, volunteers, and staff of historical,22 educational, and patriotic societies of the United States such as the National Society, Sons23 of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the American Revolution National Society24 in promoting patriotism and the values embodied in the Constitution of the United States.25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the26 president general of the National Society, Sons of the American Revolution, Larry J.27 Magerkurth, and the president general of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Merry28 Ann T.
