SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 97
BY SENATOR MILLS AND REPRESENTATIVE HUVAL 
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend the St. Martinville Senior High School's Academic Decathlon Team for
winning the state championship and for its performance in the national competition.
WHEREAS, St. Martinville Senior High School has been serving 9th through 12th
grade students since the early 1900s and has had numerous academic success stories; and 
WHEREAS, SMSH has been studying the 2011-2012 United States Academic
Decathlon's theme of The Age of the Empire including the art, music, economics, literature,
science, and history, together with essay contests, speech contests, and interviews; and 
WHEREAS, SMSH's decathlon team captured the State Academic Decathlon
Championship and represented Louisiana at the national Academic Decathlon competition
in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in outstanding fashion, garnering a sixth place finish
nationally and was selected Rookie of the Year as the highest scoring new school in the
national competition; and 
WHEREAS, team members included Jenny Vongprathoum, Vanel Porter, Elizabeth
Theriot, Jessi LaSalle, Patrick LeBlanc, Austin Rangel, Marcel Dixon, and Tristen Ferguson
and were led and guided by their sponsor, Sherrie Jacobs, and school principal, Michael
Kreamer; and
WHEREAS, SMSH's Academic Decathlon team merits a special measure of
commendation for its commitment to high achievement and academic excellence. 
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend the St. Martinville Senior High School Academic Decathlon team for winning the
state championship and for its outstanding performance at the national competition.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that best wishes for continued success in the future
are hereby extended to the team and its members.  SCR NO. 97	ENROLLED

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Sherrie Jacobs and Michael Kreamer of St. Martinville Senior High School.
